Straight vs Gay

This refers more to the naughty massage places in Chiang Mai. There are broadly two types -- those with virtually all straight masseurs and those with virtually all gay. I've never had a good experience with a straight masseur. While massage skill itself is always hit & miss, straight masseurs seem to have no idea how to please a man, which is all understandable and natural. But when I discuss with the owners, they say gay staff are difficult to control and volatile, and that straight masseurs are more popular. Any ideas on this?

I think gay boys are more popular among tops, and straight boys among bottoms. I think some bottom guys get a special thrill when they are fucked by straight guys.

Also, a lot of Thai gays feel they can get other gay guys anytime, anywhere, for free. It is straight guys that are harder to come by.

Hello from me in GCHMai now-as escapee from BKK floods. Am more or less strugging with same.
1. there is NO set divison between the 2 types. In fact, when I read older reviews, it only mentioned 1 shop as mostly real gay-and this has ceased (B-beez-is now doing a normal guesthse). The major division, sorry to say, is that often chao-doi=hilltribe sons, get blamed for not doing very much. Try to avoid those-ASK before. Perhaps a str8 Lao/Isan boy is better as that.
2.From the 12 or so shops now running,. it seems 1-2-Come gest best reviews-and is also most far out of centre. And Gemini-which has prices even higher as famous HERO in BKK. I suspect that both are having a larger share of the Thai market and hence more having good tops. Check gayinchiangmai.com for an overview.
3.to me-now being in CMai for 5 days and not being here since some 10-11 yrs, these shops suffer from the same syndrom as about any bisnis here: a giant oversupply of small bisnises, all vying for a small custom base. Prices are quite high and somehow I suspect they have different sets for Thai and farang-in books only Thai and english.
Compared to BKK; even though they say to open from 12-12=24, do not come before 18/19.00 Most boys do it as a side after their daytime jobs or study. Many small shops hardly get an average 1 client/day. And take time to talk and talk before-walk away if it seems to meagre on offer.
I'll try to report more later on. If you happen to be in Cmai right now-let us know what good finds you did make!

Interesting observation on the hilltribal boys. I’ve had a gay hilltribal who was quite hopeless in everything. Though the manager insisted he was Thai, I came to know the truth after having a long chat with the boy. I must have had some straight hilltribals too, without knowing it. The question on the ethnic origins of people can be tricky – for example if a hilltribal has Thai citizenship he could claim he is a northern Thai and may not admit he is hilltribal, unless he is proud to be one. Also there are a lot of Shan people in the area north of Chang Puak gate. Does that mean businesses there, such as Gemini, are staffed by these? Shan (Tai-yai) boys are very attractive, but I don’t know anything about their attitudes, etc.
Most places seem to have mainly straights with one or two gays, according to the managers. One place I know has mainly gays is 2 Brothers. But the massage skills there leaves much to be desired. It seems the manager/owner controls the boys by having them live there within the shop.
I doubt very much there is any price difference whether the customer is Thai or not – they treat customers the same.

Can you really put labels on groups?

My best CM experience was just last month at River House. I selected a masseur and the whole thing was totally disaster plus continuous phone calls in and out and I quickly aborted the whole thing. The boy was from Bkk.

I paid and was walking out when a very macho cute young man walked into the drive way and down another 15 steps into the back yard and started talking to one of the masseurs. I assumed that the 'walk-in' young man was an employee so i beckoned for him to come and talk on the footpath outside. We did the 'what's your name; etc., then I politely asked whether was prepared to kiss / smoke, etc., an it was all 'yes', so I led him into the lobby area to get things moving.

Turned out he was just walking past and asked the masseur boy for directions and had no idea what the place was. The mamasan quickly explained and the young man indicated he was willing on a 'once only' arrangement. Turned out to be totally delightful, a macho polite 20 yr old charmer who did everything, beautiful body, from Udon Thani.

The conversation was also interesting, he explained that he doesn't believe in the idea of str8 or gay, he just wants to enjoy sex in every possible way with men and women, and it was his first experience with a farang.

@label groups: duuuh-to a certain degree, as with anything in life/people. In fact I maintain a little more in Aseans as in westerners. Guess we here are all old+wise enogh to know and have experienced that. besides: your example was clearly about a Lao/Isan guy and not a chao doi, nah? and could also have happened smack in the middle of the nightbazar or any foodcourt, nah?
And yes: I also avoid BKK-boys with their label-lust, trendy looks and all that. And immense lust for more baht.
BTW Riverhosue and Classic House have same owner and same staff-pool and have a savingcard: after 5 times paid the 6th is free. Het their bonuscard!
I walked by 2bros twice and once went in and did not follow up-he welcoming and shouting from the street plus what was available-and happening then+there=-foot massage to tourist ladies, was not too inviting.

well-still spending time here in cool ChMai and enjoying it. Nice, friendly people, cheap, excellent and very varied food, a good command of english-even though the Thai spoken here is so easy to understand. Loads of farang who also can speak passable Thai. Very nice YiPeng=LoyKratong, much larger and varied as in BKK-lovely floats with also the local young males taking in a large part.
But the point Bago raised (and likely contested by jaafar/baobao in disguise) still stands for me-after been to a few more shops. The best one I got from a Lao/Isan type from Khorat.
Some NGO could put tongue in cheek and set up some training course for these chao doi to really please us. Like they do in BKK. Would open loads of well-paid job opportunities. And probably no lack of willing volunteers to help out.........

.
Am on the last day here in Chmai now-and had my best of massages yesterday at RiverHouse-and not from a BKK-guy. A well trained sportman/soldier type from Lampang, working there for 4 years and showing that experience does count. To go for a repeat-if I had met him earlier on. Just see how experience can differ and what a lottery it remains.

Some observations after some 'empirical research' into the boys in CM, whih includes 'interviews' and other 'actions'. It seems it is difficult to find 'gay' people among hilltribals. Kinda hard to imagine a man having sex with a man in their thinking. Dressed in urban clothing, some hilltribals can look very attractive, though they are very small. Some seem to have an issue with cleanliness. Shan boys are very much like northern Thais in terms of looks and culture. There seems to be a fluidity in sexual orientation, but some positively identify themselves as gay. Some are small, some are big. They can be quite tall people. It can be hard to differented Shan and northern Thai. For the Thais, the urban-origin ones are kinda sophisticated, and that means demanding.
