whitewater restroom: 8 arrested

Thursday evening (aug 24) eight men were arrested for lewd conduct in this public restroom! It doesn't take rocket science to figure out this place has been under police surveilance plus there are small children hanging around there.

Does anybody have sympathy for any of the arrestees???

Here's a copy of the Desert Sun's article for those interested (with last names omitted).

Eight suspected of lewd acts

The Desert Sun
August 25, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eight Coachella Valley men were arrested Wednesday after undercover deputies allegedly saw them commit lewd acts in a public restroom and parking lot at a Rancho Mirage park.
Arrested were Eugene ____, 70, Palm Desert;. Donald ____, 43, La Quinta; Michael _____, 42, Cathedral City; Bennett ______, 50, Palm Springs; Javier _____, 24, Desert Hot Springs; Michael ____, 67, Indian Wells; Robert _____, 65, Palm Desert; and Albert ______, 58, Rancho Mirage.

The suspects were booked at the Riverside County Jail in Indio on charges including committing lewd acts in public, indecent exposure and sexual battery.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department investigators set up surveillance outside the Whitewater Park restrooms Wednesday after receiving complaints about people having sex inside.

Deputies saw several men visit the restroom to rendezvous with others.

"It's sad we got people everywhere who do this kind of stuff," said Palm Desert resident Toni Schwartz, who was at the park Thursday with her son. "Why'd they have to come to our park?"

The sheriff's department has a "zero tolerance policy" when it comes to criminal activity near children in a public park, sheriff's Cpl. Dennis Gutierrez said.
