so i've read the reviews on this site but i was hoping for some more insider information? i'm mainly looking for a place with a hot, sexy atmosphere where i hear/see other guys getting it on but still have privacy with whoever i'm with so that guys aren't necessarily coming up to us or watching us (a room with a door would be ideal but is certainly not necessary). are there any such places? it seems like steamworks in berkeley is a good fit - any idea on the best way to get there via public transportation from around the sf civic center? or are there any places in sf that offer some privacy?

I used to work at a sex club in SF so I can tell you a little about the SF scene. You should know that private rooms are illegal in SF. Also condoms are staff monitoring are required. The Public Health Dept is supposed to enforce these rules. They try but are chronically underfunded. So if you need a private room I'd suggest Steamworks in Berkeley.

Right now there are 3 sex clubs for gay men: Blow Buddies, Mack Folsolm Prison & Eros.

Blow Buddies used to be all about sucking cock. It's set up to be a cocksucking paradise. Lately more and more fucking is going on and it's pissing off the regulars. If you're looking for oral I'd start there.

Mack Folsolm Prison is barebacking central. No surprise that there are a lot of tweekers, especially late night/early morning. Some guys are put off by the weird setup but I like it. Bring your own lube cause they sell it at ridiculous prices. You might wanna BYOB the first time to try it out.

Eros is the favorite sex club of the public health dept. They throw you out if you bareback like the regs say. And they prohibit poppers. (I'm allergic to poppers so I like that rule.) But they have lots of free condoms and free lube. If you have problems with trans-men then this isn't the place for you - lots of trans guys work there. This is a safe place to start your tour.
