while in the midwest be sure to check out Saugatuck ,MI. Beautiful little town and cruisy! Then go onto Chesterton,In and the Indiana Dunes. Lay on the beach, hiked the dunes and clean up in bathhouse with some cuties. Next onto Lake Station IN. for the Michigan street theater and Great cruising in the video booth area. Yum. Then onto Burr St. exit off I94 west bound and the little bookstore across the street from the TA truckstop. Despite what the manager said in an earlier posting, DICK reigns supreme here! Now your ready to head into Chicago.

A couple of suggestions:

Head west of Chicago, Interstate 80 toward Iowa. There are a couple of good bookstores before you reach the Iowa border, or about 2-3 hours west of Chicago. The rooms are cheap, too.

I highly recommend Iowa City, Coralville area. Good bookstores with gloryholes. Big college in town, too. Also, cheap to places to stay.

If you DO decide to head west from Chicago, make sure you pass through the Quad Cities. There are 5 ABS here but the best is TR Video in West Davenport, Ia. You can also cruise Credit Island Park in Davenport, though it's not as cruisy as it was in the past. The levy along the Mississippi in Davenport is another area that is cruisy. But for the limited amount of time you may have, it would be better to hang out at TR's.

I always seem to find some fun there. Some hot guys there at times...depending upon the day. Weekends seem to be better.

You had mentioned St. Louis. If you do decide to go that route, then spend a few fun days there, then head west on I-70 to Columbia MO and check out Eclectics Bookstore. 2 more hours west on I-70 and you are in Kansas City - you can then see why The Strand theater gets such rave reviews! Something tells me you would be in heaven at the Strand on a Sat or Sun afternoon. Then just head down to Oklahoma, which you seem to have an interest in doing anyway. What do you think?...

I second the advice on the bookstores in Iowa City. You might also try Champaign-Urbana which also had a great bookstore with not just glory holes but whole doors between booths in the past.

Head west on I-80, stop in Omaha, try out the amenities, hot corn fed Midwestern boys. Yum!
8 hours west is Denver. Lot's of fun places to cruise in the Mile High City, then dash back east on I-70, stop in Kansas City, I had soo much fun at DixieBelles the last time I was there. Then back to St Louis, try the only bathhouse in town The Club, I was there for their Halloween party last year and must have sucked a dozen hot guys and vice versa, or stop by Clementines, the best gay bar in town for some hot and hunky men. I think the Lake Station,IN. bookstore, Michigan Street Theater is GREAT! Best bookstore I have EVER been in. The Iowa City bookstore just off I80 is really pretty good too.

Thanks to all of you for the advice about where to go.

Some updates: I gave up on Chicago for several reasons and actually have been in Oklahoma City for several days. Anybody who has done the Habana Inn will understand why I'm here for two weeks.

From here, I've decided to head southeast, into the Smoky Mountains for the Labor Day period and then to the South Carolina coast, mostly Charleston (where I came out of the closet in 1980), before starting a loop around the Georgia coast, through Jacksonville and Pensacola, Florida and then returning to the safety and love of the Junior Cruisemaster in New Orleans.

Didn't I tell you my itinerary was subject to change! And it still could change again!
