I read the above article in disbelief. The California legislator is considering a bill to repeal a 1950 law that requires the State to fund studies into the cases and cure for homosexuality. The 1950 law was prompted by a series of sex crimes in Los Angles, including the rape and murder of a 6-year old girl, even though the person responsible for these crimes was NOT gay.

The measure did move out of committee on a 4-0 vote with three members abstaining because they could not get delete homosexuality from the repeal.

"Former" gays also disapproved of deleting homosexuality from State funded studies on preventing sex crimes against children. ePFOX (Parents and Friends of Ex-gays and Gays) Executive Director Jarelee Smith believes research into the causes and cures of homosexuality should be continued, and called the move to end funding offensive. Then she added she doesn't think sex offenders are predominantly homosexuals, but that she doesn't think they should excluded from research on the topic.

"I just don't think any door should be closed when we're trying to stop attacks on children," Smith said.

You got to love it when bigots justify their actions on the basis of "but think of the children."
