Gays serving in the Military
 

On Friday, the US House voted to give the military until the end of the year to finish its study on how repeal of the ban on gays in the military would impact services and to make the necessary changes to implement the new policy. Sunday, Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Armed Forces Joint Chiefs of Staff, commented that he wished Congress had waited until the Armed Services finished their review before imposing conditions on them,

This is akin to saying Federal racial equality legislation should never have been passed until the States had a chance to study the matter. NOTHING will change if the Military Brass has it's way. Change will only come with the legislative might of the Congress, and it is time for a change. Gays are only seeking to serve their country without having to turn their own back on what they are.

Congress is not telling the military to make the change immediately. They are just letting the Brass know that there is a time limit on their foot dragging. The Military has already said the study would be completed by the end of the year, and Congress is just letting the Pentagon know that they will be held to their own deadline.
