Cities of Northern Mexico-Between N. Laredo and Mexico City

I am planning to drive from my home near Dallas to Cuernavaca in late January and return around 10March. I am going to Cuernavaca for Spanish school. I was there two years ago and had a great time in Cuernavaca and in Mexico City. Cuernavaca is only about one hour from Mexico City and the Pullmans de Morelos run several times each hour from two terminals in Cuernavaca to the Tasquena (sp) Bus Terminal in the southern part of Mexico City. If you ever take this be certain to try to that the Dorado bus instead of the regular. It took me a few trips last time to realize that this is the better way to handle this. You can spend a little money on a coke, water, whatever to take with you on the regular bus or spend an extra 50 to 60 cents and have free cokes, plus nicer seats, etc on the Dorado buses. It turns out to be less expensive.

I usually fly but I have driving the Dallas-Mexico City and Cuernavaca several times. I have also driven from Dallas to Veracruz a few times and have never had any problems at all. I drive a Camry here in Dallas but I love big cars. I recently found a 1993 Cadillac Sedan de Ville with 21000 miles in perfect condition. I bought it about two months ago and plan to drive this very comfortable car to Mexico. I want to drive so I don't have to be concerned about getting all the things back with I will collect while I am there.

I would like to know if any of you can give me information on the large cities in the northern part of the Republic mainly those between N Laredo and Mexico City-specifically, Monterey, Saltillo, Mautehaula, San Luis, Queretero. I have spent very little time in these cities and it has been a long time.

I would like to spend a night in Monterey or Saltillo and another in Leon, San Luis or Queretero. I have also heard that there is some type of bathhouse in the small town of Mautehaula. I have never had anything good to say about Mautehaula because it is about a ten mile stretch along the highway with speed limits of about 10 miles per hour with a lot of police.

If anyone can tell me bars, any inexpensive hotels, banos, etc in any of these cities I would appreciate it. I have looked at sergay but there is not a lot of information there about these cities.

Thanks in advance.

Monterrey

I recommend you stay a day or more in Monterrey. It is a fascinating city. I stay at the Autel El Paso for about $30 per day. Don't miss the Banos Capri behind the Central Autobus Station. Although it is not gay there is plenty of action in the changing stalls. If you are into art, the Modern Art Museum is well worth the time. Have a wonderful trip. Sautillo is a place to pass through but the Museum of the Desert is worth a stop.
