Other areas of BKK

During my next trip to Bangkok I want to try staying in a different area of the city and see what it is like. I have always stayed near Lumphini, Silom, Surawong. I have visited some of the places at Saphan Kwai on my last visit and it was a different experience and interesting.

Can anyone offer insights into the Dusit area near the Zoo, palaces, and river? It seems like there might be some good parks and universities near there to meet some thai guys. I would appreciate any suggestions or experiences.

Loads of Guesthouses on Kao Sarn road, near the Grand Palace and Banglumpoo market. Popular amongst backpackers. There is also a gay club called Sake around the corner ( not sure if it is still open ).

A better hotel in the same area is Royal Hotel http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/bangkok/royal.html located at a corner of Sanam Luang ( a field opposit the Grand Palace ). A short walk to Kao Sarn road, and also to a boat station. Wung Saranrom, a small park full of rent boys is also in 10-15 minutes walk.

Oh, and if you do stay in this area, don't forget to visit Wat Borvornivet ( between Democracy monument and Banglumpoo market ) where the King spent time during his monkhood and where the patriarch has resided. This wat also has a secondary school for boys where I studied for 6 years. ;)

Thanks for the useful info Thai Guy

I certainly find it useful as it gives me something to go look at other than shopping malls, during the day time in Bangkok. I've never gone around the Banglampoo area before (is this spelling correct? I've seen it eing used as well as the version you used).

*Sigh...* Now if only I can find the time to visit LOS again. I haven't even had time ti look up my relatives in South Thailand.

Thanks So Much

Thank you Thai Guy.
This is exactly the type of suggestions which are a great help. I will be doing some volunteer work in this area.

Will the guys in the park you mention approach a Farang? Are there other such areas such as university in the area you would suggest?

Thai Guy, since you know that area:

Once when I was in Bangkok, a friend of a friend took us at night to a small park not far from government buildings. In the park was a shop where you could buy and eat ice cream. From the park you could look over the river(s) toward bridges in the distance. What's the name of that park, and where is it exactly, if you know?

FarangYai,

The guys in and outside Wang Saranrom will approach anyone, Thai or Farang. The going rate is 200 - 500 baht. But please becareful, this area is AYOR. This park is on the opposit side of Wat Po.

There are 2 universities near the Grand Palace, Thammasat Uni and Silpakorn Uni. But I doubt if these students will cruise in this area as they may not want to be recognised by other students.

stillthrobbing,

A small park by the ( Chao Phraya ) river? Sorry, I don't know of this park. I wonder if it belongs or is part of the Royal Navy.

Icon may know this ?.
