Loy krathong - 2552be..

02 nov. - NATIONWIDE - Loy Krathong festival.;
- As this will not be a religious festival but more of a folk event alcohol should remain ON sale for public & for pte. consumption; bars, clubs, discos. etc. may well stage their own events: eg. BABYLON SAUNA will be featuring a foam party.

I go to Chiang Mai during Loy Krathong. What are the best places to go there during the festival. I do not mean gayplaces, but festival places.

I'm in Chiang Mai each year for Loi Krathong and you're in for a treat. Loi Krathong/Yi Peng is early this year, being based on the lunar calendar.

It's particularly enjoyable to watch the Kom Loi (hot air lanterns) being launched at Wat Phra Sing and the Kom Loi competition in front of the Municipal Office.

The parade/competition, which I think is on the evening of 2 November this year but cannot be sure until I arrive in CM, is great fun. Jaded western youth would not participate with the enthusiasm shown by the Thais and everyone has a great time. As a photographer I find it best to be at the southern end of Moon Muang Road, assuming the same starting point as the last couple of years.

Have fun.

On what day I can see launching the air lanterns? As I am a photographer also I think I would be nice to take some puctures of that event.

Thanks for your information Billy.

My guess is that the main parade will be 2 November which makes me think that the lanterns will be 1 November but TIT and the only way to be sure is when you get there.

Sounds wonderful. I hope you post some pics!! Curious how the kids get into it. We have just had Jung Chau Festival here (mid-autumn) & the kids go crazy with lights & lanterns. Great to watch people enjoying themselves.
