List of gay parks in BKK?

Hello everyone,

Apart from the well-known Suan Lumphini, Chatuchak park and the small park at the crossing of Vibhavadi-Rangsit and Rachadapisek, what are the other cruisy parks in BKK? I don't mind if the places are far away from the city centre.

Thanks in advance,

Anakhorr

-- Three parks cum to mind, (refs. are to possibly helpful posting nos. in the Cruising Spots, (updated list?), thread, (qv.), -

1. - KING RAMA IX. PK., nr. SEACON SQ.: #291., 92. & 93.;
2. - SARANROM PK., opp. GRAND PALACE.: #142. & 166.;
3. - RAMMANINAT PK.,: #141.,.

-- There may well be other parks?

-- E&OE..

I've never heard of cruising going on at Rama IX park, a fact which I believe was confirmed by an unsuccessful foray on the part of your very own goodself? If I'm not recalling incorrectly, it might be a disservice to list that park here as it is quite far out from the CBD.

1. - True. But just as 'One swallow does not a summer make.' so one unsuccessful cruise does not mean that that park is non-cruisy;
2.- I believe that the person concerned wrote that he does not mind how far out the places are from the City's cntr.? Should he be unlucky in the park then he can try his luck in SEACON SQUARE! ;-)

Still I don't think it qualifies as a "gay park" or even a cruisy one...never heard it mentioned as such, and I do keep my ear to the ground.

-- Both Khun TST. & Yannawa - men of no little experience - have given their views about that park's possibilities & potential, although whether they've been realized might be moot?
-- One would hope that 'Keeping yr. ear to the ground.' wouldn't hinder you from offering yr. own suggestions?
- But possibly we should allow Khun Anakhorr, as the originator of the query, to prove that particular pudding!

Why not just give him a list of every park in Bangkok, then?

Actually, I think the OP covered it in his original posting, with the addition of Saranrom from you.

If I knew of others that fit his criteria as a park where gays congregate, I certainly would have listed them.

By the way, I've never heard of Ramaninat Park. What and where is it? And what happens there?

-- My copy of the BKK. City Atlas., ISBN.:9-789749-440780., spells it as ROMMININAT PK., (site of a former Penitentiary.),.
- To help those others, whether they keep An ear to the ground. or Their backs to the wall., I did include a posting ref. to my entry in Cruising Spots, (Updated list?), #141 - kindly refer back and have a look for your goodself! :(

-- As an aside, I availed of search-engine Google, as others are free to do, and noted that therin the park's name is spelled as ROMMANEENART; the perils & pleasures of transliteration, indeed!

icon513 28th September 2010 02:42 AM

OK, so it's a park. Is it a place known for cruising?

-- Well, thank you for yr. admission.
- You wrote that you 'Keep yr. ear to the ground.' ... .

-- I have never cruised in ROMMANINAT PK. as at those times that I visited it my then boi-friend was living near by and I waited therein to pass a few mins. before moving-on to meet him at our agreed time.
- But the above having been written I'd suggest that where there are men of various ages exercising, jogging, playing various team-games and 'Walking & looking.' PLUS there being two hawng nahms the possibilities might exist?

-- To make a point: I darewrite that while you might have heard of PEACE PARK,* wch. is included in the rough trapezoid of Ratcha Withi, Ratcha Prarop, Bang Nam & Phaya Thai rds. it's unlikely that you'd have visited it, possibly too small & insignificant to be worth yr. considering as being 'Cruisy.'.
- Yet over a recent week-end, (sorry, I forget the exact date - this TOF. suffers from amnesia!), tee-rak & I walked therein during an a'noon..
- I was surprised at the considerable number of young people/students therein: exercising, rehearsing various sorts of dance-routines, walking-around or just sitting & chatting. Gps. of pic-nickers, too. Several of the young men & I exchanged covert glances, much to tee-rak's overt annoyance.
- A couple of hawng nahms are there, too.
- Again, on a one-time visit one might write-off that place; but, as my Enthusiastic & American Friend would say: 'It's a crap shoot.'.

-- From VICTORY MON'T. it lies roughly 450.yds. SE.;
- Google Earth's co-ords.: 100-32-28.E.x13-45-45.N.;
- BTS.: Victory Monument, (N3.),.

I love you, Sextile. You are one of the main reasons I read this forum. Please keep posting as you do.

Your Aussie & Dedicated Friend.

Maybe some of us would appreciate these little bickering back and forths between some of you be restricted to private messages between those who care? I appreciate and value the knowledge shared (really appreciate it, actually), but it gets tedious fast when folks argue over whether helpful information may or may not fit someone's personal definition of a cruisy park. My 2 cents: any place where men come together is cruisy. Some more than others, but every inch of earth has the potential.

A truer word never spoken.

I have been there, actually, and it definitely IS a place deserving to be included on a list of cruisy parks in Bangkok: ie., it is a place where large numbers of gay men to to pick up sex partners, and is well known as such.

No one is bickering, Keith -- but if I were a casual visitor to Bangkok I certainly would not want to waste my limited time spending a couple hours crossing town to go to a place that is just an average park, where nothing ever happens.

If you want a list of places where "the potential" exists, I can name hundreds (thousands?) of parks, shopping centers, bus terminals, and public toilets around Thailand -- where 99 times out of 100 you will waste your time.

Just trying to cut the wheat from the chaff here, and potentially save people time, effort, and disappointment.

Because it was already mentioned by the original poster. Had it not been, I would have added it to the list.

icon513 28th September 2010 09:37 PM

Oh, sorry...I have NOT been to Peace Park.

It's the other park mentioned that I was thinking about (the one in front of Central Ladprao).

So, what happens there? Is it a "real" or a "potential"?

Again...so what happens there? Have not heard it mentioned as a cruising place before.

-- I presume that you are refering to PEACE PARK?
- If so then I believe that I wrote on my sole visit thither I was accompanied by tee-rak and that I couldn't do much more than exchange covert glances with a few other & likely-looking lads. Kindly refer back to my posting in this thread #12.; or shall I re-post it again? :-(

-- As an aside I would ADD that the number of people who go-out and look-for such places here in BKK. and report-back on their findings does seem to be countable on the fingers of one hand.
- YES, I am aware that many have to earn their daily bread, but surely not 24/7.?

wantasian 30th September 2010 06:31 AM

I googled Rommininat Park (it has a similar spelling that shows up) and it has a prison museum. The old prison system was cruel, including beheadings and torture. I'm adding that to my list of places to visit (it's listed as a top-10-recommended place to visit in Bangkok)--looks very interesting. One web site showed Thai school children getting a big kick out of standing behind bars (getting their pictures taken).
