Thanks! That's a really interesting idea!
I hope this isn't too wordy or repetitive. Keep reading and you'll see something new, promise.
When I've made plans for the future of CFS I honestly couldn't figure out what to do with Adopt A Sex Pig. Keith had originally asked me to create it very quickly based on older software I'd written for him. He was very upset with the anti-sex/anti-porn/anti-gay attitudes that were rising in the second Bush administration, especially the "Section 2257" regulations on porn sites.
We rushed to get the Pig site operating so he could take it to IML. I think that was 2005, but I could be wrong. Keith originally had a "bare bones" look to it on a plain white page with a pig logo, trying to make it look simple like Craigslist.
As I said, since I actually had been attached to (if not totally in) the leather/kink scene earlier (and I'd like to get more active in it again when possible) I thought the site name was a little silly. It wasn't a recon.com or anything like that.
It also had
much fewer ads but no paid membership. So, it wasn't set up to make money, more to make a point.
Later Keith decided to give Adopt A Sex Pig the same page template (with oodles of ads) as CFS.
Right now, there's probably lot's of inactive Pig site members. I've been surprised that I get several new Pig memberships for approval every week. That site's usage stats are low.
To bring it back would require totally new software. It would have to have a mobile-friendly design. It would be easier to maintain a single "responsive" design (good for mobile and computer both) instead of having two designs or a website + App.
And of course, that take time, work, money... You see where this is going. Straight to the page I just published about setting up paid
"Donating" or "Supporting" Members who would receive an "ad-minimized" version of CFS plus some new features.
And yes, I am basing this partly on the model of fetlife.com: You don't
have to pay and I
won't take anything away from you if you don't, but you'll get a better experience if you do.
How to fit Adopt A Sex Pig into that? I don't know.
It would help to unify the "branding" so that it would be part of the
cruisingforsex.com domain instead of being separate. Maybe
sexpigs.cruisingforsex.com or
hookups.cruisingforsex.com or something else. The existing
adoptasexpig.com address could redirect to whatever new address we use.
Likewise, since the free ad-based model doesn't really work well these days, it would have to be determined what parts of the Pig/Hookup site would be totally free and what aspects would be for "Donors/Supporters."
Please feel totally free to make suggestions, react, give feedback, whatever. Ultimately, I want these sites to evolve into what you want to use -- but also something that will be financially sustainable.
