Since Monday evening CDT we've been having intermittent outages on the sites, specifically
- CFS Sex Listings
- CFS Message Board
- CFS Cruiser Gallery
- CFS Personals (aka Communal Stalls)
- CRUISING for ESCORTS
- Adopt A Sex Pig
All of these rely on a central CFS database server, and they've been having trouble keeping their connection. Sometimes the outage has been just a few minutes, sometimes hours on end.
This also affected
- Part of the CFS Home Page which is data-driven
- The narrow black (also archaic and unreadable) navigation menu which appears at the bottom of pages for laptop and desktop users and near the top of pages (if you really, really magnify your screen) for mobile users.
The tech support at my hosting company have identified the problem for me. Tonight I've been working on bringing these parts of the sites back up. My task is to make small but essential changes both to the database configuration and to the configuration of the various software packages that make up the sites.
This means I have only been able to make small changes to the sites' content since Monday night. No updates were published at all today.
So far, the Sex Listings, the Message Board, and the Cruiser Gallery, and the teeny-tiny navigation bar are back.
However, I'm having trouble with the CFS Personals, with CRUISING for ESCORTS (including the part of that site which shows up on the CFS Home Page), and with Adopt A Sex Pig. I hope to get these fixed tomorrow.
Either I or someone close to me has had medical emergencies (Monday) or long appointments (today), and there's so many other things that go into running this business alone and having a complicated life.
In addition, I've been away from the
CFS Editor email account all three days, meaning that if you contacted me directly or used the
Contact Form, I haven't yet seen your messages.
It's now past well 1 am and I must stop soon. At 55 with high personal stress, severe vision issues - but I'll play in the dark!
- and other ongoing and new challenges, there's a time to rest.
I'll add that this shows very well the weakness of having a group of sites this large with one person single-handedly running them.
This has been unfortunately the case since Keith, the founder of CFS and all these sites, passed away in 2012. I know all too well, as Keith knew, that it's too much for just one person.
I've been explaining that
CFS must change in order to stay online. There must be more revenue so that I can hire some help. Or perhaps some or all of the sites must be sold.
Please read what I've posted about
The Future of CFS. There's also a
Message Board Discussion where only I and
weekend_boy have posted. A non-member who frequently visits and reviews DC's
"Glorious" club, bottombill, has also responded.
I thank you both enormously. Just having some feedback and input helps me make better plans and decided what to do - except for emergencies like this week.
I honestly don't know what's waiting in my
CFS Editor email - that's for tomorrow, I guess - but based on what I've seen since I started posting about this on the CFS Home Page in July there might not be much.
So please, look at what I wrote about how CFS might change. Let me know what you think. Something will change here, one way or another.
Since 1995 you've relied on CFS, or maybe even STEAM Magazine before it. You keep coming back here, reading and posting reviews, maybe looking at the Cruiser Gallery or the Message Board.
Much has changed, the Message Board is much less active, people hook up or find someone to connect with through Apps, Craigslist, or social media. I understand.
If you still want CFS, or if you use CRUISING for ESCORTS or one of the other sits,
I must deliberately and carefully change them. It matters to me to know what you think before I do.
