I agree with Wowpow re Welcome Plaza. Might add: Rooms, while a bit run down, are huge, so are bathrooms--And have, big, deep tubs. Balconies are large enough to actually sit out on and there's a nice pool. But then there's the Asian tour bus crowd: try to get off the elevator and they'll push you right back in; make Ambiance stairs look good.
Given choice between Ambiance & Welcome, however; I'd chose Welcome: just don't think Ambiance is worth the price, even though rooms are a bit nicer, they are crowded, shower is tight, some rooms open directly into the hall.
Welcome used to offer long-stay discount. (As does Studio Suites)
If you're going over New Years, Ambiance may be fully booked.
