Hyde Park

Hey,

New to the area- is there anything going on around Hyde Park or at the University of Chicago?

I'm 25, 6ft, brown/brown, cut. I trade pics if you are willing.

If by "anything going on" you mean are there gay places to go out in Hyde Park or nearby, then sadly the answer is no. But even if you just got to Hyde Park within the last week (and the school year calendar for the U of C's famous quarter system would indicate that) you've probably already figured out that there aren't a whole lot of places to go out in Hyde Park for anyone.

To get up to speed on where the gay scene in Chicago is, if you don't already know, look on campus for a copy of one of the city-wide gay newspapers. You should be able to find a copy of the Windy City Times or The Chicago Free Press. They both have lists and maps of where gay places are. The vast majority are on the north side and the ones that are south are in neighborhoods that you probably wouldn't want to visit at night as somebody just learning his way around.

You can also check out the web to get similar info.

There is a gay-lesbian student organization on campus. If nothing else, such organizations can hook you up with guys to hang out with or, well, hook up with. They should start having mixers/parties soon to kick off the new school year.

This site is pretty dead as far as traffic and generating actual hook ups, if that's what you're after. Make sure you post on Craigslist and/or whatever the other gaypersonals sites of the moment are.

If you are starting up at the U of C, as I suspect, good luck. Given your age, you would be a grad student. I was an undergrad there in the 80s and it can be a trying place, given the rigorous work and the isolation, but everyone gets something out of it.
