According to the Associated Press article, Salt Lake City has passed gay rights legislation that makes it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation in housing and employment. However, the Church of Latter Day Saints remains strictly opposed to any effort to change the definition or legality of marriage except as between a man and one(?) woman. However, the Mormon Church supported the city legislation only after it was drafted to preserve the right of religious organizations/schools to continue to discriminate against gays if it part of their religious belief.
So they can tell others not to discriminate against gays, but CAN do it themselves! To paraphrase: the Mormons gave, and the Mormons hath taken away... (apologies to Job 1:20 (KJV))
