Been gone from the old home town for a long time, over 25 years. Back in the mid-70's there was an active gay underground, but it was well hidden.
There was one good tobacco shop just off of Longfellow Square, dirty magazines but no toys or booths. They finally opened an ABS just off the Square just before I left town, but I never got to visit it. It was a branch of the Fifth Wheel from Portsmouth which I was familiar with. We had one adult cinema, straight films only, called the Paris Cinema right on Congress Street, the main drag. There was a previous adult cinema down the street on Oak Street but it was very short lived. Action was limited to the dark corners and hurry up groping in the downstairs bathroom. However, if you lived conveniently close, it was a safe pick up spot. The worst thing was they always hired some old Grandmother to run the ticket booth. If you were into outdoor cruising, there was Deering Oaks just outside of the City Center. Nice walk paths, but not as much cover as I wanted. It was close to the Portland Campus of the University of Maine so there was a steady stream of young college boys cutting thru the Park. The Park went downhill when the new Interstate By-pass cut off part. So, guys! What's hot in Portland, ME now? Where has the action shifted too? Bring me up to date.

Over 65 people have looked at this thread, and not a one could think of anything to write about gay life and sex opportunities in Portland, ME. Maybe I was right to get out when I did. Kind of solidifies my choice as to whether to return or not.

Over 120 viewers to this thread and not one posted reply. I can't believe there is nothing to write about in Portland, ME. There is an oral sex gangbang group up in little Richmond, ME, but nothing in the biggest city in the State. Write something so I know you're alive,

There are two gay bars now. Styxx is the twink palace, Blackstones is the "neighborhood bar". Two bookstores, 300 feet from each other. Most of the outdoor cruise areas have been defoliated, especially Deering. Yeah, it's fairly boring here now.
