Yesterday in the news there were stories about how Grindr sold users exact location data.

This is just what has always scared me about the sex apps - they can track exactly where you are - and by proximity who you are with and by looking at patterns where you live and work!

This was a thing in 2021.

Grindr sells "anonymized" info, except your location events are tied to a central ID number and software can search it all for the closest match to some known person's movements.

Grindr was also bought by China a few years back, then Trump blocked the sale - rightly, as having all your data go to China's database profiles that they keep on every person (not just their own people) would be that much worse.
