My BF's new job

My boyfriend just emailed me, saying that he lost his job last week, but got another one. He now works at a bar as a PR guy.

What exactly is a PR guy? In my country, PR means a public relation personnel. But, at a bar???

I think it's faster to ask here, since his English is not excellent.

Sounds like a "Mamasan" position. Sit with the customers and encourage them to "off" members of the staff.

What kind of bar is it? Some regular bars or pubs have PR Boys or Promotion Boys promoting certain brands of beverages. Balcony and Telephone in Silom soi 4, for instance, have boys working for Tiger beer, for Heineken, and for San Miguel, among others. They mingle with the regular staff, and could easily be taken for one of them.
If it's at a go-go bar, it could be the person at the entrance trying to hail customers.
