I was on Samui a few months ago. Cheweng beach has gone Club Med, full of beautiful hotels and nice expensive restaurants. In other words, totally ruined. I don't know about the other beaches.
On Soi Starbucks (I kid you not) there are three small host bars and a free drag show if you buy drinks. The show was pretty good and some of the backup dancers quit adorable. After the show the participant line up for photo ops (tips expcted of course) but also an opportuntity to invite a young lad to Starbucks. I didn't any really gay place to stay. A gay friend of mine owns a travel agency just outside Cheweng beach. I'll post his info later. I actually had my first visit to Phuket as a single man, and was very pleasantly surprised. I got special service from a mamasan a very cute boy. I don't think I'll be going back to Samui any time soon. Maybe the other beaches are ok. Samui used to be a GREAT place, seemed like it was full of gay Thai running away from their families and it was party, party, party.
