The Soi Twilight bars now attract a great number of the young and fashionable.Hardly see the "vintage man" who just likes to sit with a boy's hand on his knee. There has been a generational change at these places.
I think the sleaze disappeared about the same time as the hot candle wax show. R.I.P. candle show.

I went over to Soi Twilight with another Farang friend this past Saturday night. We hadn't been there in about 3 months. First we went to Screw Boy. yes, they've remodeled again. Some of the same boys that have been there for years along with a few new faces. I've offed several guys from there over the years and always seem to run into one I've had before. Nice guys at that bar but I never seem to get the ones that do much.
Over on Soi Twilight, we poked our heads in a few bars. As someone said, they are all looking alike; both the decor and the boys. We went and got seats in one of the upstairs bars - I can't even remember the name - and it had a fair selection of boys; 30 or more. Nothing much interested me, so we left and fought our way of the soi. Really, walking down the soi has become a very annoying experience with all the doormen and touts grabbing you and trying to get you into their respective bars. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like being yelled out and jostled when I'm trying to casually walk down the soi and decide where to go. At this point I've about had it with Soi Twilight. No more. I'll stick to the smaller and sometimes sleezy places like My Way, Golden Cock, Alek, etc. They are usually dull as hell (not much if any dancing) but I can always find someone at those little dives. And the boys there seem to be willing to do more also. So...I ended up the night at My Way and took one from there. Not great, but satisfactory in bed and very pleasant personality. I'll take that over a big cock and bad attitude anytime.

On my last visit, I met a guy I had known before at Dream boy, and since we knew each other quite well, he told me some details of how much the performers are paid. I have forgotten the rather complicated details, but I remember the gist of it being a general increase all around, such that they are paid a few hundred baht for an act (varies depending on the act) and some do more than one act.
A few years ago, I think the going rate was a mere 50 baht an act, so the impression I got that night was that it had climbed a few hundred percent. That was probably what enabled Dreamboys to put on a better show than the rest - it meant requiring the boys to come in at 6 or 7 pm for rehearsals everyday, employing a good dance instructor, etc. This high rates cold be specific to Dream boys. Having said that, I agree with icon513 that brown envelopes to the boys in brown have amost surely grown fatter too.
