KL's New terminal for low cost airlines opening soon

The new terminal for budget airlines will open this March .
But it says " The new terminal is about 20 kilometres from KLIA "

KL's Budget Air Teminal

How can we get to the KL city ???
By bus ? or Airport express train ? ( a new 20KM link between terminals ? )
And how to get to the existing terminal for FULL SERVICE airlines ?

I might have to fly to this new terminal for SORNKRAN .
If it's not convenient to get to the city , maybe I should take an international express train or international ( or interstate ) bus instead .
They terminate the city centre anyway .

I hope Zippo or Dreamorph could help me this one . ;)

Thai Guy 30th January 2006 09:56 AM

I will be interested to know about this too. I will fly Air Asia to KL in June.

Ninja, where do you normally stay ?. I am thinking about Pan Pacific or Swiss Garden. As I am going there with my sister and her daughters, I prefer to stay near shopping malls/shopping streets where they can go shopping or have a walk on their own while I go to sauna in the evening. Any recommendation ?

KLIA low-cost terminal plans

Malaysia's Star newspaper had this to say:

"A shuttle bus service will ferry passengers from KLIA to LCAT [low-cost air terminal] and vice-versa. Talks on public transportation from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre to the LCAT are underway.

"There would be 1,100 parking lots and 100 motorcycle parking bays for passengers using their own vehicles. Taxis and bus holding areas have also been designated."

Malaysia may be trying to open the low-cost terminal by its "tentative" March 6 date in order to "beat" Singapore, where the Changi Budget Terminal is scheduled to open March 26. Any bets on which date will be more reliable? (Malaysia denies it's trying to beat Singapore but says it's just ready to open.)

As for where to stay: Anything wrong with the Regent?

midwestbttmboy32 30th January 2006 06:23 PM

did they build a new airport or are they using the older one that closed about 10 years ago when they opened KLIA? That one is actually much closer to the city centre.
As for places to stay, I would highly recommend the Shangri-La downtown, and be sure to ge their "Value Rate" which includes a free roundtrip limo (Mercedes) from KLIA, fabulous buffet breakfast, a really nice gym, unlimited (!) laundry, hi-speed internet access if you have a laptop, local calls, and 6pm check-out. I got it in July for about $130++. It's actually a great deal if you use all the extras. If not, then I'd recommend the Capitol Hotel, in a great location for about US$50 per night for room only.

If you're going to spend US$100+ for another hotel, I'd go for the Shang.

stillthrobbing 30th January 2006 10:19 PM

They're not using the old Subang airport, which is closer to KL City Centre. Instead, they're building a new low-cost terminal in the same general vicinity as KLIA, but apparently quite some distance from its existing terminal buildings.

Last time , I stayed at a budget hotel near KL SENTRAL monorail station ( flying with a budget air anyway , right ? )
It's good to stay near a monorail station .
You can go to OTO2 by monorail . And also you can go to Bukit
Bingtan ( the KL's premier shopping area )
But if you don't want to catch monorail , BUKIT BINGTAN/IMBI area the best choice .
I don't think SIAM Pragon IS THE BIGGEST shopping center in ASIA . Just visit TIME'S SQUARE in front of IMBI monorail station !

You can walk to gay saunas like BAMBOOSIA ( also there is a gay
massage place near the Pudraya bus terminal ( near IMBI )

There are many hotels for any budget from around RM45 to your CLASS :p
They say the cost performance of KL hotels are the best in the world .

KL low cost terminal

Well, I for one is not looking forward to its opening. First, its located quite a distant away from the KLIA international airport and most probably, you need to pay a higher taxi fare to get there.
Another thing, there will be no aerobridge servicing this terminal. If it rains, you carry an umbrella and if its not, you walk and get free sun tan.
The low cost terminal is located near the air cargo building. I haven't been to the cargo building even though I used to work in the airport! So I can't tell exactly how far away is it.
The cabinet is still considering if airport tax will be reduced for the low cost terminal.
Let's just wait and see what happens. Any delay will be delightful news to me.
Thai guy.....if you want a real nice hotel near to shopping area, try the Mandarin Oriental. Its connected to KLCC. Good time to come to KL will be in late Feb and March where most shops will be having sale after the Chinese New Year.

Thai Guy, The Swiss Garden is the better of the two for shopping - it is very close to Jalan Bukit Bintang one of the main shopping streets. The Pan Pacifc was a bit too far out for me when I stayed there once. The Swiss Garden is an excellent hotel and the closest I have used for shopping. - just a short walk and you are in the thick of it. Lots of cruising areas too all within walking distance of the Swiss Garden :)

brief encounter 1st February 2006 02:42 AM

Hi Thai Guy.I too have stayed at Swiss at the recommendation of Malaysia CFS moderator (see above) and found it very acceptable and within a walking distance (10mins) to the malls. You can also cut across the night market vitually opposite.

Capitol was good back in 2001 and Federal is very central.(they have a bowling alley there I think).

Thai Guy 1st February 2006 03:26 AM

Thanks guys for the wealth of info.

No. I plan to spend around 2,000 baht a night. But if the Shang offers a shag with a dark and handsome Malay guy, I may consider to raise my spending. :D

It seems Swiss Garden and Capitol are in the same area and within walking distance of each other. But rates at the Swiss Garden seem cheaper ( 168 MR with breakfast for 2 for a deluxe room ).

Midwestbttmboy, do you know the Capitol hotel's own website?. I gogled it but couldn't find.

Ninja, please don't forget to give us feedback ( esp saunas and massage parlors ) of your next trip to KL after you have returned.

Thanks everyone once again.

On behalf of M-W btm boy here is Capitol website:

http://www.kl-hotels.com/capitol-hotel/

Capitol is far more central than Swiss.

Yannawa 2nd February 2006 01:03 AM

Thai Guy was asking for the hotel's own web site. This is the hotel's site:
http://www.capitol.com.my/index.html
Here they are offering a Superior room for R130++ while KL-Hotels' rate is R165++ for what appears to be the same room.

Thai Guy 2nd February 2006 02:12 AM

Yannawa, Thank you very much for your kindness.

Also many thanks to Brief Encounter. BE's website is also very good. I had a look and found it offer a very good bargain for The Regent at $R 260++ with breakfast for 2. I notice that The Regent, as recommended by stillthrobbing, is one of the Four Seasons hotels which I have never stayed before and have always wanted to try. It's also located in the same area ( Bukit Bintang) as Swiss Garden and Capitol, and is only a short walk to a monorail station. So, I think I will stay at The Regent. Thanks guys once again.

Ninja darling, sorry for stealing your thread. :p

stillthrobbing 2nd February 2006 02:26 PM

Regent

Last time I was there a few years ago, you could tell it wasn't a new hotel, but the accoutrements it had were kept in good shape.

And it was right around the corner from
Blue Boy bar and a rudimentary sauna, if that matters.

AirAsia moving on 23

AirAsia will move to the new LCAT on 23 March .
Still not yet clear how to access to the existing terminal and the KL city centre . :(

LCC terminal to KLIA, City Centre

Malaysia's Star newspaper had this to say last month:

"A shuttle bus service will ferry passengers from KLIA to LCAT [low-cost air terminal] and vice-versa. Talks on public transportation from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre to the LCAT are underway."

On Feb. 11, referring to the Mar. 23 opening of the low-cost terminal, the Star reported: "'The free shuttle service for passengers who need to move between the LCC terminal and the main terminal to catch connecting flights will be ready by then,' [Transport Minister] Chan said, adding that the service was available at intervals of 15 minutes."

According to the Star, Chan also "said that the Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry would decide if the limousine services currently in use at the KLIA main terminal would be extended to the LCC terminal."

Thanks for the info , Stillthrobbing .

WE NEED free shuttle service for passengers who need to move between the LCA terminal and the main terminal to catch AIRPORT EKSPRESS , or just an EKSPRESS TRAIN station in the new LCAT . :(

Shuttle bus service to Salak Tinggi station

I have finnally obtained some information of the new terminal .

KL's Budget Air Terminal

Actually , last week when I inquired with MALAYSIA TOURIST office , THEY EVEN DIDN'T KNOW about this terminal at all .

I realized ALL Thai tourists travel by mini van or train to Malaysia . :p

By the way , soon after the opening of KL's LCCT , Sinagapore Changi's Budget terminal will open .
I might use this new terminal in April , if Thai AirAsia moves to the budget terminal .

For your reference . Changi Budget Terminal

KL low cost terminal

Apart from the LCCT terminal, did you get the news that Malaysia will be increasing its airport tax? Its proposed to be RM60 but yet to be confirmed by the transport ministry.
I remember reading an article that buses operating from KL Sentral to the LCCT will based on the Air Asia flight schedule and fare will be from RM6-10. I find it hard to believe that the fare is rather low but then was wondering if they meant from the KLIA terminal building. Will have to wait till 23rd or 24th when everything is finalised and confirmed.
People are also claiming that the LCCT building is done in a rush job just to get to be opened ahead of the Spore LCCT and also to be called the first LCCT to be opened in Asia! Blaaa:mad:

Thai Air Asia will not be moving to the Budget Terminal in Changi/Singapore. For some reason, they'll be staying put where they were. Tiger Airways will be moving.

Ninja 16th March 2006 10:02 PM

One of TEMASEK airlines

Thanks for the info , Sloot .

Thai Air Asia will not be moving to the Budget Terminal

***
They always use one of very very end gates in Terminal 1 ( such a distance from Immigration counters ! )

No wonder they still charge S$15 for airport and airport security charge , instead of S$13 for the budget terminal .

I guess TEMASEK's another budget air , JET STAR ASIA wil move to
the budget terminal .

I hope Thai AirAsia wouldn't move forever from Thai sky .

and fare will be from RM6-10.

***

IT IS very cheap when it's compared with the one way Airport EKSPRESS fare ( was RM35 1 year ago . should have increased by now )

During peak season like Sornkran , AirAsia ( the both FD & AK ) is MORE expensive than some full service airlines such as INDIANS , GULF AIR or even LUFTHANSA's internet fare .
Why do we have to bother budget airlines and the budget terminal , if it's so inconvenient to get there and get out from there ???

Ya Ninja, you do make a point here.....since the budget terminals will be further away, taxi fares might be more expensive and that is if they do know the way!! They might just send people not familiar with the terminals to the main terminal!
Unfortunate, non budget airlines only have occasional specials during the off peak season.

LCCT airport tax

In today's newspaper, it has been announced that the airport tax will be reduced to RM35 instead of RM45. But that does not mean they will refund you the RM10........ that's what I think:mad:
Maybe Ninja can bang a few tables and ask for a refund!

Just a note to Ninja our sauna lover. Incase you hear anything about Absolut Massage and Sauna in PJ SS2, just don't waste your time going there. Its a small sauna and when I was there this afternoon to try the massage, there were just a few out of shape guys. Had massage with local masseur...just a soso massage with 'urut batin' ....massage your dick n balls. That rascal after getting me so hard, told me its times up!!!
Left me with a pole sticking out to go to the bathroom for my shower! The other massage places in PJ that has Thai boys and China boys have all closed down due to police clampdown. So, I just have to wait for my trip to Bangkok to enjoy the delicious Thais.

Ninja 18th March 2006 07:21 AM

And Thailand Airport charge will rise

Dear Zippo ,

Thank you very much for updating KL info for us .

And I have a very bad news . :(

AOT ( Airports of Thailand plc ) will rise the international service charge of 500 Bhats to 700 Bhats from Feb 1 2007 .

New Airport service charge

Now I really have to travel by minivan to Malaysia .

Bus to LCCT

There's a half page advert on the bus service from KL Sentral Station to the LCCT in Sepang. Yes, its only RM9.00 one way. You can log on to their website to check www.skybus.com.my

Ninja 19th March 2006 09:19 AM

Where is TIBA ?

And where is Bertolak ?

AK 885 from BKK arrives ( if it doesn't delay ) in KL LCCT at 23:25 .

The last direct bus to KL SENTRAL is 0:30AM ?
20 to 30 minutes delay is very usual , if you fly with AirAsia .
Have to ready to travel that LOOOOOOOOONG distance by taxi
( and raedy to pay higher taxi fare )

Thai Guy 19th March 2006 12:20 PM

Quote:

where is Tiba. where is Bertolak
It seems to me Bertolak is nowhere, but it is a Malay word that means "Departure". Likewise, Tiba means "Arrival". :D

And, if I read the bus schedule correctly the first bus to leave KL Sentral for LCC-T is 3.30 AM. The last bus from LCC-T to KL Sentral is 11 PM. Travel time takes 1 hour 15 minutes each way.

zippo 19th March 2006 11:31 PM

TIBA?

Ha ha....Thai Guy is very correct....Bertolak means departure and Tiba means arrival. The time table has dual language...English and Malay.
All the time I guess we'll have to wait and see if they are punctual and also the fare RM9.00 seems hard to believe!

Ninja 20th March 2006 01:53 AM

Bahasa Malayu ?

Thanks Thai guy & Zippo for clearing my problem with understanding the language . ;)

Service at new LCC terminal no better

In today's Star newspaper, a traveller wrote in to complain that the new LCC Terminal has not provided better service for the Air Asia travellers because of several reasons.
"Most obvious is the aircraft path into and out of the parking apron. There is only one single path available which causes unnecessary delays, whenever several planes are entering and exciting the parking apron at the same time.
My flight was delayed by an hour landed at LCCT but had to wait another 15mins to allow another plane to leave the parking apron.
If there are many planes queuing up on either side to exit and enter the parking apron, it will easily add up several more minutes of delay.
There are also not enough taxis available to pick up passengers. According to one taxi driver, the low fare of RM57 to KL discouraged many taxis to come and pick passengers at the LCCT.
The bus service is commendable with a fare of RM9. However, the departure are not according to the time table as the buses only depart when it is at least half full."

This is an account of a traveller who has just used the LCCT and hope things get better and not worse!

Ninja 29th March 2006 02:25 AM

Changi's Budget Terminal opened , but

The budget Terminal at Changi has just opened 3 days ago ,
but ONLY Tiger Airways is using this terminal at this stage .

Singapore's new Budget Air Terminal

Jet Star , Adam , Lion and Jet Airways are not using this terminal .
WHY ???
