Question KL's New terminal for low cost airlines opening soon

The new terminal for budget airlines will open this March .
But it says " The new terminal is about 20 kilometres from KLIA "

KL's Budget Air Teminal

How can we get to the KL city ???
By bus ? or Airport express train ? ( a new 20KM link between terminals ? )
And how to get to the existing terminal for FULL SERVICE airlines ?

I might have to fly to this new terminal for SORNKRAN .
If it's not convenient to get to the city , maybe I should take an international express train or international ( or interstate ) bus instead .
They terminate the city centre anyway .

I hope Zippo or Dreamorph could help me this one .

I will be interested to know about this too. I will fly Air Asia to KL in June.

Ninja, where do you normally stay ?. I am thinking about Pan Pacific or Swiss Garden. As I am going there with my sister and her daughters, I prefer to stay near shopping malls/shopping streets where they can go shopping or have a walk on their own while I go to sauna in the evening. Any recommendation ?

KLIA low-cost terminal plans

Malaysia's Star newspaper had this to say:

"A shuttle bus service will ferry passengers from KLIA to LCAT [low-cost air terminal] and vice-versa. Talks on public transportation from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre to the LCAT are underway.

"There would be 1,100 parking lots and 100 motorcycle parking bays for passengers using their own vehicles. Taxis and bus holding areas have also been designated."

Malaysia may be trying to open the low-cost terminal by its "tentative" March 6 date in order to "beat" Singapore, where the Changi Budget Terminal is scheduled to open March 26. Any bets on which date will be more reliable? (Malaysia denies it's trying to beat Singapore but says it's just ready to open.)

As for where to stay: Anything wrong with the Regent?

did they build a new airport or are they using the older one that closed about 10 years ago when they opened KLIA? That one is actually much closer to the city centre.
As for places to stay, I would highly recommend the Shangri-La downtown, and be sure to ge their "Value Rate" which includes a free roundtrip limo (Mercedes) from KLIA, fabulous buffet breakfast, a really nice gym, unlimited (!) laundry, hi-speed internet access if you have a laptop, local calls, and 6pm check-out. I got it in July for about $130++. It's actually a great deal if you use all the extras. If not, then I'd recommend the Capitol Hotel, in a great location for about US$50 per night for room only.

If you're going to spend US$100+ for another hotel, I'd go for the Shang.

They're not using the old Subang airport, which is closer to KL City Centre. Instead, they're building a new low-cost terminal in the same general vicinity as KLIA, but apparently quite some distance from its existing terminal buildings.

Last time , I stayed at a budget hotel near KL SENTRAL monorail station ( flying with a budget air anyway , right ? )
It's good to stay near a monorail station .
You can go to OTO2 by monorail . And also you can go to Bukit
Bingtan ( the KL's premier shopping area )
But if you don't want to catch monorail , BUKIT BINGTAN/IMBI area the best choice .
I don't think SIAM Pragon IS THE BIGGEST shopping center in ASIA . Just visit TIME'S SQUARE in front of IMBI monorail station !

You can walk to gay saunas like BAMBOOSIA ( also there is a gay
massage place near the Pudraya bus terminal ( near IMBI )

There are many hotels for any budget from around RM45 to your CLASS
They say the cost performance of KL hotels are the best in the world .

KL low cost terminal

Well, I for one is not looking forward to its opening. First, its located quite a distant away from the KLIA international airport and most probably, you need to pay a higher taxi fare to get there.
Another thing, there will be no aerobridge servicing this terminal. If it rains, you carry an umbrella and if its not, you walk and get free sun tan.
The low cost terminal is located near the air cargo building. I haven't been to the cargo building even though I used to work in the airport! So I can't tell exactly how far away is it.
The cabinet is still considering if airport tax will be reduced for the low cost terminal.
Let's just wait and see what happens. Any delay will be delightful news to me.
Thai guy.....if you want a real nice hotel near to shopping area, try the Mandarin Oriental. Its connected to KLCC. Good time to come to KL will be in late Feb and March where most shops will be having sale after the Chinese New Year.

Thai Guy, The Swiss Garden is the better of the two for shopping - it is very close to Jalan Bukit Bintang one of the main shopping streets. The Pan Pacifc was a bit too far out for me when I stayed there once. The Swiss Garden is an excellent hotel and the closest I have used for shopping. - just a short walk and you are in the thick of it. Lots of cruising areas too all within walking distance of the Swiss Garden

Hi Thai Guy.I too have stayed at Swiss at the recommendation of Malaysia CFS moderator (see above) and found it very acceptable and within a walking distance (10mins) to the malls. You can also cut across the night market vitually opposite.

Capitol was good back in 2001 and Federal is very central.(they have a bowling alley there I think).

No. I plan to spend around 2,000 baht a night. But if the Shang offers a shag with a dark and handsome Malay guy, I may consider to raise my spending.

It seems Swiss Garden and Capitol are in the same area and within walking distance of each other. But rates at the Swiss Garden seem cheaper ( 168 MR with breakfast for 2 for a deluxe room ).

Midwestbttmboy, do you know the Capitol hotel's own website?. I gogled it but couldn't find.

Ninja, please don't forget to give us feedback ( esp saunas and massage parlors ) of your next trip to KL after you have returned.

Thanks everyone once again.

Thai Guy was asking for the hotel's own web site. This is the hotel's site:
http://www.capitol.com.my/index.html
Here they are offering a Superior room for R130++ while KL-Hotels' rate is R165++ for what appears to be the same room.

Yannawa, Thank you very much for your kindness.

Also many thanks to Brief Encounter. BE's website is also very good. I had a look and found it offer a very good bargain for The Regent at $R 260++ with breakfast for 2. I notice that The Regent, as recommended by stillthrobbing, is one of the Four Seasons hotels which I have never stayed before and have always wanted to try. It's also located in the same area ( Bukit Bintang) as Swiss Garden and Capitol, and is only a short walk to a monorail station. So, I think I will stay at The Regent. Thanks guys once again.

Ninja darling, sorry for stealing your thread.

Regent

Last time I was there a few years ago, you could tell it wasn't a new hotel, but the accoutrements it had were kept in good shape.

And it was right around the corner from
Blue Boy bar and a rudimentary sauna, if that matters.
