No problem at Sheraton Grand Sukumvit as long as they look reasonable. Hilton too new and haven't stayed there, but the boat across will be a hassle and make a discrete entry more difficult. The Sheraton Royal Orchid on the Silom side of river is right opposite Hilton and easy entry with a friend.

You don't have to take the boat across...there are several bridges you know. And they will be faster than the boat except perhaps at rush hour.

...boats, trains, taxis......for a short time visitor to BKK why have the hassle of going further than u need when there are heaps of wonderful hotels within easy reach of the action?

I can also recommend the Westin Grand Suhkumvit right opposite the Sheraton Grand..and a bit cheaper.....and both right next to Asoke BTS and the new underground.

If your motive is solely cruising, maybe.

But being on the river is an attraction for many, and a taxi ride to the "action" in Silom is not going to take you much longer from the Hilton than from the Sheraton Grande.

Icon...I agree by the river is the best location in BKK....there's always that hint of a breeze and a little open space. That's why my most favourite place is Royal Orchid Sheraton.....its more like a resort with are two large swimming pools , (one in a beautiful tropical garden which is actually leased from the Portugese embassy), excellent gym, taking a friend in is easy, and its only a 50 BT 5 min cab ride from the action.

The pool at the Hilton looks to be pretty token, and and I guess I just cant see the reason to cross the river.
