I will be getting into BKK on a flight arriving at 11:30 pm. By the time I get to the hotel in the Silom area, it might be pretty close to 1:00 am. Are all the go-go bars closed by 1:00 am? Is there anything open late, and where might I be able to find boys at that hour? Appreciate any advice.

What are the ground rules for picking up on the street? I have never done this before. How do you do it? How do you identify whether a boy is available for hire? By cruising or by directly asking? Any safety concerns? Is the fee the same as an off boy from a bar? Thanks.

You don't have to worry about how to identify the boys on the street that are available. They will find you. If you make any kind of eye contact with them (and usually even if you don't), they'll will ask "Want massage?" That's a dead give-away that they're available. Walk along Rama IV between Suriwongse Road and Silom late in the evening any night of the week and you'll see all kinds of guys who are available. However, I'd say that you MAY be asking for trouble if you take any of them. There's probably a reason why they're not working in a bar. So, just keep your wits about you and lock your valuable away somewhere. Also, if there is any kind of problem with the one you choose, just remember that you have no bar to go back to to complain...or to try to recover your valuables. Always settle on the price and the services to be performed before you take any of them away. Never let the guy see your wad of cash. If you're going to take any of them and you know that you're only willing to pay them 1,000 THB, keep a 1,000 THB note in one pocket. Then, when it's "paytime", the guy will only see the one, lonely note. BE CAREFUL!!!
