I will be in Taipei for only one night, January 5th, and was looking for info on either going out in TPE or finding possible cinemas/saunas/bars/etc. And the info is minimal, to say the least. A search on "Taipei" in the Asia and Thailand forums lists not a single reply to Taipei questions! But since nobody seems to have asked this question here, maybe somebody has some info?

Taipei is no Thailand thats for sure.
But if you are looking for some cruising action, I would recommend that you go to the sauna. There are two. Office and Rainbow. You can get details at utopia's website for Taiwan. http://www.utopia-asia.com/taipsaun.htm Hope you have a good time. Don't expect anything close to Babylon sauna. It's very different in Taipei.  Re Taipei, the last time I went to Taipei was about 12 years ago and at that time I told myself I would never want to come back, and I have kept my words quite well !. Now, according to the messages posted on a Thai board recently, Rainbow sauna seems the most popular sauna in Taipei. Best time to visit is around/after midnight. Skip Babylon sauna, it is nothing like Babylon Bangkok, not recommended. Have fun... |

As mentioned by DJboy, Rainbow is very big with a large open bathing area (pretty dark) and big steam and sauna rooms off it. Was last there about a year ago and it seemed mostly 'sticky rice'.
A little further down that road on the same side is Hans Mens Sauna which is definitely worth a try. It's a bit run down, but usually has a wide selection of guys, including students. On the main floor is the open bathing area (always nice to lie in the hot tub and watch all those naked bodies), a TV room with reclining chairs and coffee/smoking area. Upstairs is a darkroom maze and about 25 private rooms. At week-ends, Hans is very busy from around 8:00 pm till noon the next day as many guys sleep there. During week-days there are far fewer patrons. The peak period then seems to be from around 7:00 - 10:00 pm. Has anyone been to Office? Where is it? |

If you happen to be in taipei on friday or saturday, the best bet is to go to Fresh bar, the only place in taipei where potato queens can be seen (usually the same guys every weekend night, but you wouldn't notice that if you don't visit often). You can easily pick up someone there (esp. if you're not choosy) and take him either to your hotel or the sauna. Rainbow is the only sauna in taipei that attracts a few fit guys (on any given night, you wouldn't see more than, let's say, 4; which is a huge number by hong kong standards anyway). I'd say that more than 60% of guys there wouldn't be interested in you because of your racial features, but 40% wouldn't be prejudiced, while 5-10% might be actually interested (again compares favourably with hong kong, where at least 80% wouldn't register your existence). As elsewhere in asia, potato queens are not the best looking or in the best shape, but again, if u're not choosy, u'll leave rainbow satisfied.
PS. steam room in rainbow attracts most action.
