Any hospital, anywhere. My favorite is BNH Hospital, on Convent Road. Just a short walk from Silom and the flesh pots. But, really, any of them will do.

It's a joint initiative by TH. Min. of Health. and the American CDC..

I accompanied one of my 'Talking.' boyz thither and at his urging I underwent their tests:
1.- One completes a std. form on a computer's screen - nick-name, age, nationality and a few others questions about one's sexual life;
2.- One is issued with what appears to be an 'Airlines'.' type of swipe-card from the picture on it;
3.- As a farang one will be tested for HIV. & for Syphillis, (THs. are tested for two other complaints.), a sample of one's blood will be drawn-out and sent for analysis;
4.- Initial results back in about 30 mins.;
5.- If HIV.- there'll be NO further action;
6.- If HIV.+ there'll be another analysis of the original blood-sample;
7.- There may well be a 3rd. analysis as confirmation;
8.- If HIV.+ they may well ask to take an X-Ray of one's chest, suspecting that there's a linkage between HIV.+ and Chest TB.;
9.- If HIV.+ one will be asked to return in three months' time for a further series of checks & tests.

Testing is free; the PEU. does NOT issue medicines, wch. have to be obtained from elsewhere. Their estimate for a one month's supply, if HIV. detected early enough, would be around 5,000.oo.Bh..

I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful - although the Receptionist's English is basic & limited.

NB. The Med. Cntr. is on the opp. side of S'wong. rd. to the 'Montein Htl.'; above and across the soi is a large arch: 'Wall Street Inn.' - SMC. is a few yds. IN on one's RHS..

The Dr. usually comes-in around 10.30hrs., but if one checks-in earlier the staff at reception will advise one of his ETA..

I had three swabs, (thoracic, anal & urethral.), plus four vials of blood drawn for HIV./AIDS., STDs./STIs. & Hep..
The swabs were checked immediately and I was given an initial NEG. clearance, but advised that the results of cultured samples would be ready in about one week's time.
Blood would be sent-out, with results after three working days.
The Dr. suspected that I had a slight touch of NSU., (non-specific urethritis.), for wch. he prescribed some anti-biotic tablets.
I returned later-on for the blood's & cultures' results: all NEG..

I don't have the original billing but seem to remember a total cost of around 3K.Bh..
When I was in BCH's. PEU. I chatted with the good lady while awaiting the results of my blood samples. I told her about SMC. and the tests that I had undergone - she nodded her head approvingly and commented that SMC. seemed to be quite thorough in its testing.

Checking more recently SMC. stocks drugs for HIV. patients; the cost of wch. would depend upon the Dr's. prescription, but off-the- cuff suggestions were about 15+K.Bh. per mensem, (somewhat more expensive than the BCH's. PEU. estimate!),; but you pays yer bill and takes yer medicine, like a man - ha!

Went to BNH. Very happy with it. Very accomodating with appt time. Modern, friendly and private environment. Young gdlk doctor very pleasant and listens. Explained everything and offered options of tests and treatment.
Highly recommended.
