Transport to Bangkok late at night

Will be arriving on United Airlines around 11pm. Which is best, just a taxi with a meter, or a taxi you pay in advance for in the arrivals hall?

I usually go straight to the departure level and grab a meter taxi that's just dropped off. You'll pay about Bt300 including toll that way, but if you go to the taxi booth they'll try and sell you a car for anything from Bt 600 to Bt1,500 for the same trip. Only problem is you may get a driver who doesn't speak English so it helps if you have a few words of Thai and know exactly where you want to go.

Thanks for the info. my hotel reservation has the name and location in Thai, The Swiss Lodge, at the bottom for my lack of speaking Thai.

apt taxi

Another option is when you get out of the arrival hall, take the escalator down one floor. You can get meter taxi from this level but you need to add baht50 for surcharge. You need to go to the counter/desk and let the person incharge to let them know where you want to go. Swisslodge........ nice location for all the bars and action. Enjoy.

Meter taxi stands to move to 2nd floor

"Suvarnabhumi airport is preparing to relocate public taxi stands to the second floor of the main airport building, on the same floor as the arrivals terminal, pushing out influential private limousine operators. Suvarnabhumi airport director Serirat Prasutanond said yesterday that taxi stands would move up from the frontal road on the first floor of the passenger terminal to the second floor after the Songkran festival ends on April 17."

Greta location...Tell driver you're going to Silom (pronounced SEE-lom) then show him address...he'll know it.

If you use a meter taxi....make sure he switches it on as soon as he pulls away or he'll hit you for Bt 500. Say "me-TER" forcefully.

I highly recommend the Swiss Lodge. Great location and facility. No problem with a guest.

They do have a limo service, but the rate is higher than using a meter taxi.

If it's the time of day that has you worried, you don't need to worry. The time you are coming in is one of the busiest times at the airport.

Yes, I know it is busy have done this before, but have always stayed out near the airport the first night. The Novotel at the new airport wants a fortune for a nights stay, so thought I would just get it over with and take a taxi to the Swiss Lodge. Appreicate all the adivce on what to do when I am ready to leave the airport for the hotel.

I always arrive at that time. I always take a metered taxi from the taxi stand. I have never not had the driver immediately turn on the meter. There is no traffic on the expressway, so the driver usually speeds straight to town. There will be traffic once the driver gets off the expressway in the city. The meter usually reads just under 300THB when the driver exits the expressway. So, the final rate depends on how far you have to drive in the city to your hotel. For example the Pinncale is close to the off ramp and the cheapest I have paid. I usually end up paying less than 400THB incuding the meter, tip, tolls and the 50 baht over the meter they add.

I'm pretty hopeless at names. It sounded at first like "porn" then more like "Torm" or Toom (p, t and pt being very similar in thai). Anyway he's from Isaan (like you didnt know...lol) has a nice body, not skinny like some of them and a sort of broad face. He smokes and is versatile. Chook dii !
