I don't know if it's a conscious tip of the hat to Michael Jackson or not, but the Prince is showing "Ben" this week. So, if you fancy having your dick smoked to MJ warbling the title track (and who wouldn't?), you've got until Friday to get down there.

-- Today, (26th.), afternoon I went to the HAWAII CINEMA -
- addr.: 138, Tnn. Lat Ya,
Khet Khlong San, Thonburi;
- loc'n.: from KING TAKSIN THE GREAT CIRCLE approx. 5O yds. before ROBINSON'S, (wch. is on other side of Lat Ya rd.]., (In fact KT. looks more or less directly along Lat Ya rd.!],;
- co-ords.: roughly: 1OO-29-4O.E.x13-43-35.N.;
- dir'ns. by BTS.:
-- Take BTS. to Wongwian Yai, (S8.], from Sala Daeng, (S2.), fare is25Bh.;
-- Detrain and take Exit 1;
-- Walk-down the stairs and make a LEFT-about turn so that you're facing the oncoming traffic;
-- Walk past the SATHORN BUSINESS PARK - RHS.. - and at the i'section. turn RIGHT onto Tnn. Somdet Phra Chao Tak Sin to KT. CIRCLE;
-- At KT. CIRCLE turn RIGHT onto Tnn. Lat Ya;
-- Walk under the pedestrian overbridge and approx. 2O yds. further on the cinema's entrance will be on your RHS, between a small stall selling head-phones etc. and a small optician with a 'TOPCON RM8OOOB.' sign outside.
-- Approx. 12 mins. walk from the BTS..
- dir'ns. by 'bus. -
-- From Tnn. Si Lom, (Phat Pongs], take either #164. or #177 'bus. to KT. CIRCLE; fare 11.Bh..

- The box-office has a sign suspended from above with 5OBh. clearly visible.
- From the box-office turn RIGHT and walk approx. 12 yds., (up 4 steps.], to ent'ce. on your LEFT; you will see the M&F. hawng nahms straight ahead - the men's is fairly clean. Also some counters selling drinks & snacks.
- My tkt. no. was rubber-stamped #OOO58.;
- Seating is 2 blocks of 26x12 seats, with a central aisle. Seating is generally not too uncomfortable.

--Katoeys and other workers prefer to stay towards the RIGHT rear of the cinema.
- Several katoeys joined me, (one pulled-up her skirt, dropped her briefs to shew me the size of her still remaining endowment. [Query: 'Why are so many Katoeys so well endowed?' Printer's Devil.], but as soon as they learnt of my preferences they left and called up some boyz - in name only! - to join me - for just 1OO.Bh.!

-- Films shewn are hard & straight porn..
- Hse. lts. came-On at around 17.45hrs. then were extinguished at about 18.O3.hrs.. for the start of a new program.
- Saw & smelt no smoking, (of ciggies., that is!),.

-- Afterwards and standing outside I noted the flg. 'buses. pass-by:
-- On CINEMA side of rd. & going twds. KT. CIRCLE -
2O., 42., 43., 84., 89., 15., 111. & 12O.;
- On ROBINSON's side & going away from KT. CIRCLE -
2O., 24., 84., 111., 149., 164. & 177.;
- There may well be MORE 'buses.;
- Plenty of 'buses. were going around KT. CIRCLE.

-- E&OE.. --

location of Hawaii

Thanks very much Sextile for your excellent directions to the Hawaii from the BTS. I will try to visit when I'm in Bangkok next weekend.

One question: I visited the Hawaii a few years ago and my notes from that time say that the theater is located on Charoen Rad. Your directions say it is on Lat Ya. These are parallel roads about 150 meters apart.

Has the theater moved?

-- I have a tkt. in front of me as I reply, the street address is written as:
138, Tnn. Lat Ya. Khlong San.
- As a check I had this confirmed by a Thai friend.

Dir'ns. to HAWAII CINEMA.

-- the directions that I gave to the HAWAII CINEMA from BTS. Wongwian Yai, (S8.), and in my previous posting were those that I followed.
- However, looking at Google Earth and confirming what I saw in my copy of Bangkok City Atlas* there appears to be a more direct & a slighter quicker way -

1.- At BTS. Wongwian Yai, (S8.), the train from BKK. will arrive at the platform on the station's Southern side;
2.- Avail of the exit on the NORTH side and at the opposite end to Exit 1., (I don't know its no.),;
3.- Close by and at the Eastern end of the stn. you should see Soi Charoen Rat 4., which runs in a Northerly direction;
4.- Walk along Soi Charen Rat 4.;
5.- Cross-over Tnn. Charoen Rat;
6.- Continue, (NB.: the soi changes its name from Charoen Rat 4 to Soi Lat Ya 2., [basically same soi but different name.],),;
7.- Arriving at Tnn. Lat Ya you should see ROBINSON's roughly opposite to you on the other side of the road;
8.- Turn LEFT and walk with the road-traffic until you see the box-office on your LHS.; (I have not paced-out that distance.),.
- NB.: I have not used the a/m. route - so it's E&OE.!

Where is Hawaii?

Sextile - I think you may need to launch another expedition. My July 2008 map indicates Hawaii by name and has it marked as somewhere near the junction of Charoen Rat Soi 4 and Charoen Rat Road.

On the map it is shown as location (2), whereas going by your directions, it is shown as location (1).

Weighing in on the location . . .

Yes, location (2) definitely fits with my notes when I visited the Hawaii a few years ago!

However, I have found Sextile's directions impeccable in the past, so I have no explanation for the discrepancy.

-- Being a complete stranger to the general area of KING TAKSIN THE GREAT CIRCLE I did make a special point of seeking landmarks etc. -
1.- ROBINSON'S: several yards along Tnn. Lat Ya, as confirmed by my copy of the Bangkok City Atlas.;
2.- KT.: looking directly along the a/m. road; thus the rd. leads directly to KT. CIRCLE, whereas Tnn. Charoen Rat does not;
3.- The 'buses. that went past, as verified by my copy of BANGKOK BUS MAP.*;
4.- The address as printed on the ticket: 138, Tnn. Yat Ya..

-- But possibly there are two similar cinemas in that area: the one to which I went and the other one on Tnn. Charoen Rat? Unlikely - but 'TIT.', as is said.

I'm still interested in hearing if there is anything going on at this theater that merits someone trying to find it. 100 baht katoey hookers don't cut it...is there cock on offer or not?

Me too, I don't doubt Sextile's directions. They are impeccable, as richsilver said. I managed to find White House Spa via the canal route courtesy of Sextile so I am forever indebted to him.

There are either two Hawaiis or the cinema has moved. I've never heard of cinemas moving anywhere in the world, but TIT.

I was hoping to add to the fun of the chase.

If there are two Hawaiis, perchance one offers kateoys and the other offers boys? We can hope....

-- I shall be in Pattaya, ("Boyztown, here I cum! "), this week-end, but possibly the following week-end, (09 aug.), I'll see about going-out again to this HAWAII CINEMA; I'll try an alternative route from the BTS. stn. that will take me through Charoen Rat, at which time I'll take a look-around that street before going-on to Tnn. Lat Ya.
- However, no promises ... .

hope to resolve this weekend

I will be in Bangkok this weekend and will make the trek Fri or Sat.

As I recall the "Hawaii" sign was only in Thai, so it's possible there are two different theaters and that Sextile only thought he was at the Hawaii.

I can read Thai, so if that's the case, I will know.

In any event, I promise to report back my attempts to resolve this discrepancy. I will also report on the levels and types of activity.

-- By being able to read Thai you have an advantage over me; so besides any signs you'll be able to read what's written on the admission ticket, (for which I had to rely-on another's translation.),.
- Still, two similar but different cinemas in close proximity boggles one's imagination; but one may take refuge in one of those farangs' sayings, (and sometimes heard to be uttered between clenched teeth): 'TIT.'.

You are all right to some extent! Today while taking the train to and from Maha Chai at the station opposite the end of Charoen Rat, I checked out the cinema situation.
There are three cinemas in the immediate vicinity.
1. is the "Sextile", open, active and opposite Robinsons almost directly. Name not known. Bht50.
2. is 200 meters into Charoen Rat on the the right. It appeared very closed today. Possibly named Hawaii.(see photo below)
3. is on Taksin soi 3(shown at the bottom of the map above) about 50 meters into the soi. It is being gutted right now but the shell is being left intact.

Google map of the area:

Gutted cinema on soi 3...note the line on the wall showing the stepped floorline of the cinema:

This is the closed cinema on Charoen Rat...possibly the Hawaii as described by Richsilver:

Limited to three pictures in a post, so can't show here the shots of "The extile Plaza", but it's easy to find...opposite Robinsons and open for business...easy to find..see Google above.
