2000 baht a day in Thailand?

Is the Thai government really paying the stranded farangs 2000 baht a day? Or is it just a rumor?

How come my friends (now in Bangkok) asked the hotel, but the answer was "NO" ?

Only available at hotels belonging to the Thai Hotel Association...no serviced apartments, guest houses, or short time hotels!

There is a list of approved hotels on the Tourism Association of Thailand website. But I fail to understand why many hotels are seemingly barred from the scheme.

Is this really true? Does that mean that most chain hotels like The Oriental, Sheraton Grande, Marriott etc. are not TAT members? Hard to believe.
