Many thanks for these continuing reports.

Planning to be in Bangkok by Tuesday night, though considering a change from Pan Pacific to some hotel nearer Sathorn or the river. Hate to abandon Pan Pacific, though.

You might like to review the Pan Pacific. This is in todays Australian Age Newspaper...

"Australian travellers trapped amid Thai fighting BEN DOHERTY, BANGKOK
May 16, 2010

A DOZEN Australians are holed up in a central Bangkok hotel as Thailand's bloody conflict rages around them.

As anti-government red-shirt protesters and army troops clash on the streets of the Thai capital, Brisbane teacher Shane Hancock and 11 friends are virtual prisoners in the Pan Pacific Hotel, near the southern end of the red-shirt protest camp. ETC ETC ..."

-- My heart bleeds for those virtual prisoners languishing in one of BKK's. premier hotels.
- Possibly the 'Digger.' generation has died-out by now?

-- Tee rak & I walk-by the PP. HTL. regularly; but then we're not burdened with tonnes of baggage & impedimenta.
- I'm sure that an hotel of the PP's. standing could arrange the necessary tpt. if req'd. and with the police's permission.
- Has their Embassy, wch. is not too far away, been contacted or tried to assist?

I have been in Bangkok over the weekend, but left today for a trip to Chiang Mai. The trip to the airport was fast and uneventful. I was staying at the Tarntawan on Surowong Road in Bangkok, not far from Rama 4 and the demonstrators. Noted that Patpong was closed last night (Saturday), in fact military stationed at most of Surowong's south soi's (leading to Silom Road) up to Tarntawan place. Soi Twilight had only a couple of bars open, and only one, Hotmail, had one show at 10:30 at which there were 8 customers, of which 6 were my party. Not worth visiting Bangkok right now if you want to go to the bars. Very sad state of affairs.

-- Further to our impressions of the recent red shirts' manifestations in BKK. here below is a rpt. quoting HE. the Philippines' Ambassador & Dean of the Dip. Corps -

> Departure from diplomacy <

- It makes for interesting reading and shews that not all of the Dip. Corps were quivering & quaking behind the locked gates of their embassies during that unhappy period.
