I couldn't care less about the tile work, paint, and floors. Only if they succeed at upgrading the staff will I ever be interested in visiting after the first disaster I experienced there.

Questions:

- What temperature will the water heaters be set on? I hope it's not going to be a compulsory 'hot to very hot' setting!
- Will that be 6 inch tiles or 12 inch, perhaps who could mention to the owner that 12 inch reduces the overall quantity of grouting and therefore reduces the area on which mould can grow. Perhaps there is an ISO standard you could find and share with the new manager. Heaven forbid that it didn't comply with ISO.
- The scope of work seems to be fluid so perhaps some regular progress reports on no. of tiles used, total square metreage of paint used and the micron factor of the paint would be quite helpful.
- Will they change the brand of linen on the massage beds?
- Will the doors to the rooms be located for best fung shuay and therefore bring good luck and happiness to all?
- Perhaps a group tour could be organized along with Australian meat pies.

I hope were not going to be blasted with ad nauseum individual threads of tiny detail on every massage parlor in Bangkok.

Personally I make decisions (guesses on possible happiness factor) on the appearance and some discussion with the boys and not much else, and in terms of fan club I added it to my 'never again' list several years ago, mostly on the basis of the rudeness and arrogance of the boys and not much more. This is where I see something good - the owner, from what you say, seems to have realised that the current staff don't cut it for clients.

Indeed, the reputation of the place is so poor that the new owner might be well advised to change its name.

I went to Fan Club two days ago, so before reading the above posts. No sign of work. The mamasan was all right and there was a good selection of boys. The masseur I selected gave me a very good and thorough massage, but was rather disappointing in the second part.:( The water was nicely hot, and the very large shower allows an easy mutual wash and would be fit for other games ...

I would be happy to try a new and improved Fan Club. I have a few bad experiences there with a dud or two. But, that happens everywhere. And, I wish they had a larger, better selection of boys. But, I have always enjoyed the manager. I thought he was an honest guy. I like the large rooms, large beds and large showers.

It's not one of my "must-go-to" places when I am in town. But, I have had some good times there and it is always in the consideration. If they make some improvements to make it better, that will be great.

I'd like to hear some post Grand Re-opening updates.

I went into this place recently. Never got past the reception. Somehow the manager was so disinterested and the boys so unattractive that I made my way out without going up. The same thing happened 2 years ago, when I first stepped into this place.

I have never tried Fan Club, or Game unfortunately. While I like Game a lot, Fan Club is not really my scene. I prefer the hit-and-miss massage places on the edge of town.

I note your interesting comment "I prefer the hit-and-miss massage places on the edge of town". I agree, venues around Silom are, IMHO, mostly tourist traps and seem to attract a particular type of attitude in their workers, and not my scene (each to his own).

I can speak pretty good Thai and I enjoy the conversations with the working guys "on the edge of town" as you call it. You just don't get the same converstaions on the Silom stretch (each to his own).

I also go to the gay venues at Ramkamhaeng, Rachada, etc., fairly often, and again I enjoy the down to earth daily life conversations.

In any event I might just give 'the new Fan club' and Khun Game a try, and I'll share some quick comments.

I took up the Fan Club offer of a free oil or cream massage today. Arrived there at about 4pm, it didn't appear busy. Most of the boys were on the computers but immediately reacted when I arrived, taking off shirts and putting on smiles, there were about 15 available. The manager was pleasant with good English. He explained that the minimum tip was 500 baht but more would be expected if there was sex.

Then the bit I hate, when they all smile at you......if only I was rich I could please them all and have a 30 hand massage ;) I scanned quickly and choose a smallish guy with a nice slim body and good shoulders. His English was satisfactory, evidently he is at university here but hails from Chiang Mai.

He disappeared to prepare the oil and then returned to escort me up to the room. The room, like the rest of the place was fairly stark but clean looking, it had an ensuite shower. I disrobed and he went off to the toilet but returned quickly and joined me in the shower. He gave me a very thorough soaping.

The massage was on a double bed. I am no expert in massage but I was impressed with his skills especially when he used his forearms on my back........heaven. On turning over he massaged up my legs and eventually we proceeded to the fun part....and fun it was. He was a very sweet, compliant guy.

Afterwards he soaped and showered me again, gave me his card and escorted me back downstairs.

Despite the renovations I read about on here, you could certainly not describe it as a luxurious establishment. Some of the areas look quite untidy.

Overall it was a very pleasant experience.

There is a nail sticking about 1 cm out of the floor in one of the rooms on the 6th floor. The room is on one's right as one comes up the stairs. The nail can be found about 30 cm in front of the clothes hanger alcove. It seems your contractor removed some fixture from that location but left the floor-embedded nail sticking out. It is a public-liability suit waiting to happen. Sooner or later, a customer or one of your boys is going to step on it and the sharp point will pierce his foot. This needs to be fixed immediately, until then the room should not be used.

Fan Club - visit report
 

One can see that some new tiles, furniture and a bank of computers for the boys have been added on the ground floor, but otherwise not much is different.

In the room I was assigned, the bed was a low queen-sized ones like before. New tiles have been added for the shower stall.

The line-up had 15 boys, quite varied but chiefly the masculine-demeanour, slightly muscled and tattooed kind.

The guy I chose delivered a passable massage 5/10, consisting mainly of short strokes and accupressure. My guess is that he was primarily trained in the Thai style, largely converting those techniques to oil massage. This is very different from being trained in the western oil massage style, that uses longer strokes.

Sex was highly mechanical, and forgettable. 2/10.

Room was furnished with condoms and lube in the bedside table's drawer.

After massage, before showering, the masseur indicated a glass of water and said it was for me. I said, "later" because my hands were oily, and I intended to shower first. He must have misunderstood, thinking I didn't want it at all, so he drank it all up humself.

The masseur showered with me both before and after the massage.

On exit, the manager did not ask for feedback. No feedback form like in Urbanmale and Adonis.

While paying at the ground floor counter, one of the other boys asked my masseur, within earshot of me, how much I tipped. My masseur answered.

One cannot help but form the impression that going forward, this place may have performance and discipline problems.

The new owner got rid of the duds from the old team. But how is he going to know which of his new team are duds too unless he has a feedback mechanism? Clearly, this visit, I have come across one who is at best borderline, both in massage and service performance. Also questionable are the etiquette issues of drinking the glass of water intended for the customer (even if the customer declines, should the boy drink it up himself?) and asking each other before the customer has left, how much he tipped.

Further to the above stub of a review of my first visit to Fan Club since the change of ownership, the fuller report is now on my blog.

As I've reported earlier, there has indeed been a clean-up, a re-tiling and re-arrangement of the lower floors, but massage skill and service quality are areas that continue to need monitoring, training and improvement if the venue intends to stand out from the competition. There were a number of "iffy" issues that I encountered. Some are more troublesome to fix, e.g the airconditioner blowing directly onto the bed; others easier to fix with management determination, e.g. service protocol and staff discipline.

Any others been to Fan Club since the changeover?

I didn't notice any room numbering. It's one of the two or three rooms on the topmost floor.

A few days after I sent my message to Fan Club, the new owner Cameron McKean replied to say he'd take a look at the room inmediately. I have not heard further.

Not anymore. Fan Club seems to be disappeared from their listings.

I find a lot of boys don't like to do Thai massage because it takes more of an effort than oil massage. Or that's what they tell me.
