Icon: No doubt you have the right for your own opininion. But you are certainly not acting as a moderator (not only in this thread) and you should change your title.

Being a moderator does not mean I can't voice a personal opinion.

And no moderation in this thread has been necessary so far.

Theoretically, Icon513 could be fishing for compliments and I could be rising to the bait. Still:

Yes, he has a shorter fuse lately, and if he totally loses interest and retires, he has a perfect right to. After all, no one's paying him.

But, despite occasional disagreement, I like his concise, direct, and knowledgeable posts. They often clear things up for someone like me who doesn't live in Thailand and still has something to learn about it. I hope they continue, as moderator or not.

Much of the criticism of him is quite over the top. (And I hope none of mine is.)

I really have to agree with Icon, as long as moderators don't moderate (i.e. delete or edit posts of other users), they should be free to write whatever they think, as they are also members of the community, with their own personal opinions.

Regarding Sunnee, I honestly don't understand that some people seem to be so excited about the "progress" seen there, as Sunnee is basically still the same and all the "change" seen might well not last for a long time.

EDIT: Plus, comparing Sunnee to Central with regard to seeing underage boys there is really beyond ridiculous.

I for one hope Icon doesn't go away. It would be a great loss for the board. Also, I have a secret desire to meet him.

this may be a silly question but if moderators "don't moderate (i.e. delete or edit posts of other users)" then what do they do to earn the title of moderator?

We only delete and edit when necessary.

I think in the past ten years I've only had to do it a couple dozen times. It's a pretty well-behaved crowd.

As Icon has so many strong , even controversial, views on so many topics. He should use another name when contributing rather than moderating. His ageism is so hurtful to many on the board.

At the risk of being accused of racism, there is another change creeping into Sunnee. The area around has been steadily Arabised with hubble-bubble hooka couched venues replacing beer bars across Pattaya - now there's even a new middle eastern bar, called "Bar" right in Sunnee itself, sort of opposite Don Plaza! Its bizzarre to me how an non-alchohol serving venue can be called "bar" and declared homo haters can move into the heart of beer drinking , cock-sucking Sunnee.

Call me old fashioned, but what the f**k is happening here?

My statement about Central Plaza was to point out how ridiculous his statement was: He walked through Sunee and saw underage. Ridiculous!!! He saw nothing except children buying food or walking around while their parents worked. Same as you would see in Day Night or Tuk Com etc. He did not see any underage on offer from the Bars because it does not happen.. There is one bar left with an underage problem and you can only see that by going in and being a customer. You can't see it walking down the street!

I am left to assume that those who keep trumpeting about children on offer and failing to recognize the improvement and money invested in many areas are in fact Pedophiles and are trying to attract more Pedophiles with their constant rants about how many underage are available.

And if you and he would get off your high horses and stop spreading your generalizations , we would all be better off.

In BKK last night, walking not 50 m from Nature Boy I was passing a host bar (which I'm not going to name!) when I was invited to enter to see "many boys, new boys - young boys" . Inside about a doz twinks on a central stage - my beer arrived and I was immediately asked what age I liked ? (15, 16 17 ?) . I firmly declined any illegal activity "no problem - have room here." Drinks 200bt - I paid and quickly left.
