Would you classify FAN CLUB as a type 1 or type 2? It's on my list to try next time in BKK.

Type 1: unabashed shagatorium.

general: really sad that the sh-lessmack is closed-I went the way to subscribe, await permission to look into, but never got a reply.
As for his categories: there are certainly in outer bKk what would thus be 1,5: you DO always get a good massage, nude or half that, followed up by a good portion of the real thing, without negotiation. Like in K-male or RuanRabRong or M101. Luxury does not interest me too much when you just lay down and let it happen. Choosing from pix-foto's or a book or even before from www, does not say anything about skills-for that you need a reliable trustworthy receptionist (mamasan if you want).
Again: the full list can be found on the google map on mangosociety.com, with blue/green pins to tell you if its type 1 or 2-in this way of looking.

'A LUXURIOUS MASSAGE PARLOR.' - definition ...

-- Smcg., in his first posting, mentioned that the new SANCTUARYBYA is luxurious;
- EIGHT AND AN HALF MASSAGE, which I visited yesterday, bills itself as: 'Luxurious Home SPA.';
- What are others' expectations for a 'Luxurious Massage Parlor/SPA.'?

Towels that don't smell like mildew and hot water that works.

Otherwise, I'm not really bothered.

Yes, Fan Club is a type 1 place but the boys are all freelancers and it's all the luck of the draw but with less reliability than other places. The facility are fine.

Agree with icon, clean towels with nice smell my most important item, plus of course general cleanliness.

Over the top decorations are meaningless to me, but each to his own.

Wow, I am amazed by all the strong opinions about a place where you guys have not been. The description provided by smcg about this place is correct. As regards to the services, they offer all the "bonuses" which patrons seek from a gay massage parlour in Bangkok.
The boys are a mixture of types and very friendly and service minded. My experience is that what goes on in the massage rooms are exactly the same as I have encountered in establishments such as Hero, Albury and others. The massage skills of the boys are also very good.
I do however want to give this place particular credit for being exceptionally clean and tidy as opposed to many of its competitors. It is newly renovated and the builders have done an excellent job. Not the standard Thai shabby workmanship.
Their website has a map in English language which I used when visiting the place the first time. No problem finding the place.
Well worth trying out.

-- Khun Bearbkk.,
- I must allow that I was one of the skeptics; but thank you for your second and independent opinion - appreciated & valued.

Not sure I would class Hero and Albury in the same room quality category. Hero’s rooms are very small, warn and tattered but clean. The shower in the room is a plus. Albury since the renovation has better rooms but not all are the same.

In the high end category for rooms I would say Senso and Urban Male. Both with large rooms and large massage beds/tables and general luxury accommodations. They could be hotel rooms. You pay for all this luxury too.

Mid high goes to the Body Club for their innovative shower with a center seat. Too bad the massage boys are not better.

In the mid-mid but clean range I would go with Aqua, Fan Club, and Banana Men's Club. Too bad Banana does not have in room showers—the owner said he tried but got a can not from the person doing the last remodel. It’s fine though, the boy will join you as long as it’s not busy with other customers in the same shower.

I wonder why it is that certain types will never pass up the opportunity to slip in a comment that denigrates Thais without any possibility of being based on anything more than an emotional vent.

The quality of most things, unfortunately, depends on money spent. Looking at any of the better quality hotels, shopping malls, historic monuments, artistic efforts in terms of paintings, etc. I would say that a good deal of the standard Thai workmanship is excellent.

If you spend all your time in B250 a night accomodations, sleazy massage joints and bar beers, your assesssment of Thai people as well as their abilities is hardly based on a realistic understanding of either.

Whatever has turned you into a bitter old thing, it's nothing to do with Thai standards nor qualified you to sit in judgement.

I found the comment offensive too.

I couldn't agree more. As a rule of thumb, you get what you pay for.

One great thing about Thailand is the range that is on offer, there's affordable versions of pretty much everything for those who cannot or don't want to spend more.

Come on! Listen to yourself.
Who is passing judgement on who here?

I agree that the personal attack was unjustified, but can you see how your comment about "thai workmanship" was offensive? Years ago at Babylon, I was in the gym and a machine broke - a farang who was working there said, "oh, must be made in Thailand". The Thais who heard it were very offended. My guess was that it was made in USA (I'm American). Thailand is a beautiful country with much to offer. They might not have the money that many Western/colonial powers do, but please be respectful.
