Hey all...

Finally going to be able to have some quality time back in Thailand after about seven years away - will base myself in BKK and spend most of my time there (but by no means all...)

I know this may be an overly broad question, but... should I be expecting things to have changed much? (I imagine they have...)

My typical routine used to be daytime at the gym and pool at babylon... early eve drinks on one of the terraces on Soi Twilight... ending the eve with visits to the small bars around Super A/Nature Boy, and so on...

Still a viable plan???? Thanks! All suggestions sincerely welcome!

Sounds like a plan. ... but expect to pay 400 - 450 for a beer at the Twighlight go-gos. Best value / twinks now at the new Screw Boy (same Patpong location) while Super A moved downstairs and pretty pathetic line up . Nature and GC same same. On-line pick ups (Grindr, Hornet, Jack'd) now the norm.

Well, if it's been 7 years, then I think it's safe to say that things HAVE changed in the bars ... and not for the better. As Biggles noted, the drink prices on Soi Twilight have skyrocketed to outrageous prices. The "off fees" have also risen. To my eyes, the quality of the boys on offer has declined, and there just aren't as many boys, or as many bars, as there were a decade ago. Plus, taking Soi Twilight as an example, many of the boys working in the bars are not even Thai, but from countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. Some cute ones, but I find that they aren't as versatile as the Thai guys.

Hope you enjoy your trip, but be prepared for "sticker shock" and perhaps not as much eye candy as in previous years.

Well, yeah...if you expect the forces of inflation not to affect the prices of drinks in bars in the same way it's affected everything else, you might be in for an unpleasant surprise.

It's been 31 years since I first stepped in Twilight. Drink prices have gone up 3X since then...exactly the same amount that the price of a plate of fried rice has gone up over the same period.

The only thing that hasn't gone up is the cost of a bottle of Red Bull. Ten baht then, ten baht today.
