I was once told by the Resident Manager of a top hotel in Bangkok that joiners will usually get through the security screen if they dress as though they were residing in the hotel. So the more conservative the 'dress', the better the chance of getting into the lift without any problems. Since then, I have noticed that this 'rule' works pretty well. Sadly, most of the bar boys seem to dress like pick-ups and are easily spotted.
Don't know the Sheraton, but the Marriott in Pattaya has guards on duty at the beach gate and the lifts from around 9:00 pm - presumably to suss out joiners.
