rc ~ welcome to the club. I, too, am forty, but not married (was once, a long time ago) and am always on the prowl for someone to fill my mouth. I started out at the local arcade (in those days there wasn't much internet action) and was fortunate to find some good action there. I've never done the escort thing, but have always been lucky enough with the local hot spots. Not sure if you know or not, but CFS also has people giving feedback on the crusing spots in whatever area you live in and the info there has been pretty good - at least it has been in the Albuquerque area.
One other thing that I think bears noting: take your time and be safe. You taking a step that will lead to others, and there is no wrong way to do it, as long as you're being good to yourself.
You may also want to check out the sexuality dot org website for some good general info about health, attitudes, etc. and of course, if you're ever in the Albuqueruque area...LOL
