They don't mention that another reason underage boys are used to commit crimes is that different legal systems apply if juveniles (rather than adults) are caught. I've noticed that juveniles often behave as if they are immune (reckless).
Also, when one lives in a "house" rather than an apartment, it's much easier to become a target. The best thing is to live in a large apartment building with many units, and some security, and just one way to get into both the building and the apartment (one door).
