... and I beg to differ. It's important that people understand what the legal position is. From many conversations with a Guest House owner it
appears that it is against the law to have a local in your room. The government is more than a little puritanical... probably due to R&R during the Vietnam war (and what Paul Theroux had to say in 'The Great Railway Bazaar').
It's a great country, with wonderful people. There's even a discreet 'go go' type bar in Vientiane; a local expat might take you there.
