Google Maps Area View look hereTrucker rest areas to be reopenedFacilities were shut down after complaints of criminal activity By Dave Monday The Post and Courier Saturday, March 15, 2008 ST. GEORGE — Seven rest areas for truckers that were closed because of crime and illicit sex are being reopened, and officials say it will be different this time. One of the rest areas is on Interstate 95 just south of St. George. It was one of a dozen rest areas the state closed in 2001 after ongoing complaints of drug dealing and prostitution. The St. George rest area, which does not have bathrooms and is limited to trucks, reopened Feb. 25. Crime prevention was a top priority in the new design, Department of Transportation Traffic Engineer Don Turner said. Now the rest area has lights and a fence around it. "We are trying hard to keep these safe," he said. DOT didn't reopen rest areas that were near back roads where drug dealers could park and walk in, Turner said. Truckers pushed for the rest stops to reopen, S.C. Trucking Association President Rick Todd said. Stricter federal rules require truckers to stop more often, and they often have a hard time finding a place to pull over when they're supposed to, he said. DOT also was getting complaints of trucks parking alongside interchanges and overflowing rest stops. The Department of Public Safety also urged the state to reopen the rest areas to keep more tired truckers off the road, Public Information Officer Sid Gaulden said. This year's state budget includes $723,000 to reopen seven rest areas. The state will spend $85,600 each year on lights and maintenance. 7 truck stops reopening The rest areas that will be reopened are: Interstate 95 just south of St. George. I-95 in Jasper County, northbound and southbound, about four miles south of Ridgeland at mile marker 17, to open in mid-March. I-20 in Aiken County, eastbound and westbound, about 20 miles east of North Augusta at mile marker 20, to open in early April. I-20 in Darlington County, eastbound and westbound, about 12 miles west of Florence at mile marker 129, also to open in early April.

I have had great sex in several truck stops/rest stops over the years. However, be aware that cops are much more diligent and use more sophisticated means to arrest us for sex acts at these locations now.
So, read gaywillow's thread with interest, but at the same time pay attention to the statement that SC officials will pay attention to illicit sex when these truck stops reopen. Sex in rest areas can be very exciting, but a bummer if you are arrested. So be very careful if this is your bag. I think the days of active sex in rest areas is mostly gone today. I consider sex in most rest areas only marginally less risky today than at the Atlanta airport.
