I will be in Bangkok for only one night and want to stay in a hotel near where the gay bars are. Can anyone tell me the name of a reasonably priced hotel in this area, and the best way to get there from the new airport? Have only the one night (a Thursday) and would like to have some fun. Will be going from Phuket to Hong Kong and due to flights need to spend one night in BKK. Thanks for your help.

I'd say BBB Inn.
There was one occasion when I was stopping over for just one night and flying off to Phuket the next day. No doubt, it functions more as a short-time hotel, and so the facilities were rather basic but what did I care since it was only for one night? The advantage of functioning as a short-time hotel was that nobody batted an eyelid when I took someone back. If I remember correctly, I was charged baht 1200. I could have got better value elsewhere, but I figured time was more valuable than saving 100 or 200 baht not to mention taxi fares. The BBB Inn is just 2 minutes away from Soi Twilight where most of the go-go bars are. The furthest bars would probably be Tawan, or those on Silom Soi 4 but even then, they're no more than 10 minutes' walk away.

I'd say the Bawana Hotel. It is directly in front of The Suriwongse Hotel on Suriwongse Road. Tell them you want a large room on the 6th or 7th floor. It should cost about 1,200 a night....and if you negotiate well, they'll throw in two breakfasts. Since it's right on Suriwongse Road, you're directly over the road from the boy bars...a very easy walk home. And, at The Bawana they don't care who you take to your room....with no joiners fee. At the airport, tell the taxi driver to take you to The Suriwongse Hotel (none of them know the Bawana but they all know the Suriwongse). When you get there, simply walk to the building in front of The Suriwongse.

He meant the Bawana. Perhaps it is spelt Bavana. It doesn't have a reception entrance like most hotels, but (I think) one has to walk through the Bavana restaurant to the stairs at the back. I've noticed it before but haven't stayed there. It's a good tip; I will bear it in mind myself. But is there a contact email or phone number?
It's part of the stretch of townhouses where Team Boy bar used to be. It's closed now, by the way.

Last year the hot catch-phrase was "boutique hotel". This year it seems to be "serviced apartment".
Anyway, whatever they call it, the BBB Inn is still pretty much a dump. I agree, though, that it would serve its purpose for a one-night naughty stay.
