The ban has definitely taken off in Saphan Kwai. All the bars there with the exception of one (Be High -- scratch that one of your list,non-smokiers) are blissfully smoke-free. As a result, lots of smokers (boys and customers) hanging out in the street, giving a festive atmosphere.

Solid last Sunday was filled with smoke. A regular farang had his usual group of 5 boys for whom he bought lots drinks. All were smoking. Had a word with the mamasan, but he also had a drink and a cigarette and all I got was a shrug of the shoulders.

Not surprising. Actually enforcing the law is not known to be the first priority of the Bangrak District police. The ban is being taken much more seriously in other parts of the city/country, though. Thankfully.

From Stickman's (straight) site this week:

Quote:

The cat and mouse games between bar owners and the authorities over the new anti-smoking laws appear to have been won by the authorities. A run through Nana this week revealed that not one single bar had ash trays out. One or two bar owners will turn a blind eye to their friends or big spenders having a cigarette inside the bar but if you're not known or a big spender, forget it. The rails on the walkway around levels 2 and 3 of the plaza have a plentiful supply of ashtrays and customers are being encouraged to smoke outside. Even the Rainbow bars which are hugely popular with Japanese customers - known as big smokers - have dispensed with ash trays in the bars. The Rainbow bars get a little more latitude than others so this suggests the crackdown is very real.

Went to X-Boys anniversary on Friday (now holding Guinness book of records for fitting most people in smallish space -chock full) there were ashtrays galore with a feel free to smoke atmosphere. The occassion may have given away to adherence to policy.

Returned on Sunday,as the show on Friday was too diva-drag oriented, and this time it seemed smoke free.Young man next to me went outside for a gasper.

They have some hot, slim and youthful podium dancers there btw and some roughheads in the appendage show.

If you are a smoker or a supporter of the freedom to smoke anywhere X-men go-go bar is the place to go to flout the law and cause discomfort to non-smokers.

Last night on being seated, a couple of European young farangs lit up.I moved to leave and the captain led me to the other side implying this was a non-smoking area.(This is a big room)After sipping a beer, a local in a party of three commenced to smoke in this location.I questioned this and they indicated all the room is smoking. The captain did not take issue so I left without paying but advising the captain that I had been misled.A weak attempt to make me pay failed and he sheepishly agreed to let the matter drop.

Dream Boy and Jupiter appear to be non-smoking.

Avoid X if you have respiratory problem or wish to avoid cancer.

-- Thank you for publicising X-MEN's attitude,(Soi Twilight - off Suriwong rd.), to thesmoking ban.
- Let's hope that the absence of non-smokers, (of ciggies. - ha!), will hurt their pockets!

In Classic Boys last night, the mamasan was smoking non-stop, as were some of the boys.

Is "X-men" the same as "X Boys"? I was at X Boys last night and there were several smokers puffing away, but fortunately not near where I was seated. Air quality was still good, but I really wish they would adhere to the smoking ban.

i doubt the gogo bars will adhere to the smoking ban because it is the law. i believe their line of business is already officially against thai law.

the only way they'll comply is if customers dont go to bars that allows smoking - as they say, vote with your wallet. :D

I am not sure of the exact name of the venue but it is the one located on the site where Boys Bangkok formerly was.

Surprisingly many venues are complying with the ordinance.
