While I feel 2000 baht for 30 mins is expensive, on what basis are you expecting them to accept lower payment?

If you go to a restaurant and tell them instead of paying 2000 baht for a 6 course meal, you want to pay 1500 baht for 10 courses and they can leave out some ingredients, do you even think they will bother with you?

You're not a big spender or a regular - what the hell do you even have to negotiate with?

Just because you're not willing to pay does not mean it is bad attitude to reject.

Well sort of depends on whether the 6 course meal was really worth 2,000Baht in the first place.

They currently get away with over inflated tips for limited service, mostly because they are put up on some sort of depestal by many farang (Singaporeans, Japanese, etc., also) who worship muscle and pay big tips for limited service (and let's remeber they are mostly str8 boys (like in every bar) who don't really want to have gay sexual activity if they can avoid it).

Personally I like just nicely defined bodies and big muscle doesn't interest me at all, but some do and that's their choice.

I have one acquaintenance lives between Pattaya, Bkk, and Europe, very very wealthy man who takes muscle boys home just to touch and fondle their arms and chest and legs. Sex activity of any type is not on his agenda with the muscle boys. For sex he likes very hairy older western men).

If muscle fondling with no sex makes him happy then that's his choice, no questions asked, and he does give muscle boys very large tips (one hour visit = 5,000Baht), expensive mobile phones, motor cycles etc., for fondling)

He lived for many years in Europe and did the same thing there, he found several muscle men who were very willimg to visit his house for an hour or so and have their arms, chest and legs fondled for big cash.

So, the not so well heeled customer at Tawan probably can't afford the over inflated tips and that the way it is. And it's not likely to change.

So this begs the question for the not so well heeled, whether to pay over inflated tips and go broke, or try to negotiate the over inflated tip down (not a good idea at all), or just look.

This partly reminds me of a guy from Utah, now deceased, perhaps 10 or 12 years back about 50 yrs old from severe diabeties. He had a quite limited income, he discovered gay commercial Thailand perhaps 10 years before he passed away.

First it was a yearly visit, then twice yearly, then as he became more ill, several times per year.

The last several trips he arrived with very very limited funds in his pocket and he waited outside of bars and picked up bar boys as they were leaving work, convinced them to go back to his cheap hotel and stay all night. Next morning 200Baht tip.

To some extend he bragged about this to other farang that he met.

The other farangs listening to all of this usually gave him severe negatives. His response - 'the boys must understand that I have a very limited budget and therefore they should accept small tips'.

Eventually he got bashed just up the road from the Malaysia hotel and was taken to a Bangkok hospital ICU unit. They quickly contacted his embassy who got relatives at home to pay his ICU bill and get his air ticket changed to get him home quickly (he had totally depleted his funds in gay 'entertainment').

He died a couple of days after returning home to Utah.

I think a lot of forummers here think that all forummers here are European/Americans. You must understand that European/Americans have very strong currency so 2000 baht to 5000 baht is chicken feed to them as it is around 100 USD or so. Morever, their median monthly salary is high.

However, we asians who have much lower exchange rate feel the pinch of paying 2000 baht just for half an hour.

Even the median daily salary rate in Thailand is only 40-50 baht (Correct me if I am wrong). So 2000 baht is about 50 times the daily rate.

The rich farang do spoil the market. (and maybe japs)

Nope, in countries like Thailand, the salary of most people is actually pretty close to the minimum salary. At least outside of Bangkok and some holiday resorts.

On the contrary, it has some relationship with the sex rate. It is called opportunity cost, they cannot earn higher if they demand exorbitant rate much higher than most of what their fellow countrymen gets.

The median daily rate determines food cost, transport cost etc. of a country.

So it is the rich Europeans/American/Japanese who are driving sex prices up in Thailand.

These workers DON'T work in european/american countries, they work in Thailand where the customers can be local Thai or from neighbouring asian countries with comparable living standard.

Let me give you an analogy...

How would you feel if foreigners from a richer country eg. japanese buy up all the properties in a certain European country, driving prices up and left all the locals without a home to live ?
