Just back from a glorious week in Phuket at Patong beach. Must say that gay activity is rather tame and boys not that good. I spent exactly 30 seconds at Super Boys. As reported elsewhere, the bar is down an alley away from the main clubs area. A few clothed and un-pretty boys were swinging around on a stage in a very small room. Hardly anywhere to sit. Then went on to the Paradise complex, which seems very run down. Went to a couple of bars. "My Way" had a good show, but nothing sexy. "Offed" a boy from another bar (can't remember name), but the boy turned out to be a complete dud. Finally resorted to a threesome with my Thai boyfriend and a bi-curious security guard from my hotel. Took a short term room at Aquarius for that purpose. Back in Bangkok, also observed the shows at the boy bars are more coy than usual. Has the law changed or something?

Shows involving nudity and sexual acts have always been illegal. It's not the law that varies, it's the enforcement of it.

Phuket is probably going to be ultra conservative and law-abiding with the impending ASEAN summit, especially considering the way things went with the last one.

I've heard many comments that a holiday at Patong Beach is now quite expensive compared to Bangkok or Pattaya.

Since you've just had a holiday there, can you please share your thoughts on this subject.

I haven't ever been to Pattaya, but I would say that Patong costs about the same as Bangkok. I was pleasantly surprised because I was expecting a seedy town and instead it was a bit more up-market. There are new resorts and a new shopping/restaurant complex called Jungcelyon. I also thought the "Simon Cabaret" and "Fantasea" shows quite good. And, of course, there is the gay area centred around the Paradise complex, which despite it's rundown appearance has some reasonable bars and live shows. But the boys are definitely 3rd rate compared with Bangkok.

What is "third rate" to you. Could you expand on this so that others have a clearer picture of Phuket boys?

Are they slim, slender, femme? Are they rough-looking, dirty? Are they muscled, heavy?
