Sauna report

Except for Babylon, there's not much mention about saunas lately.

Can some of you guys give some feedback (good and bad) on saunas besides Babylon?

shadowseeker 1st August 2009 06:59 PM

With the swine flu as well as tuberculosis both plaguing Bangkok these days, I would say it's best to avoid saunas at the moment....but up to you!

dorothy dix 1st August 2009 09:22 PM

Us guys aint welcome at most saunas other than Babylon.Try Heaven for a slim chance in a quiet setting.

That is not the case! I always feel welcome everywhere.

V club, chakran

I've visited the new V club about 4 times in their new location, every time totally disppointed with both the lne up of masseurs and the rude, arrogant and lazy service.

Last time, about three months ago, I decided to re-visit Charan since I was already in the building. Totally Polite at reception, and totally ignored by every Thai patron, but never rude, stayed about 2 hours and didn't see another farang.

TSTPaul 2nd August 2009 09:19 PM

Farose Sauna Pradiphat
I went there yesterday, sunday afternoon. This one is a bit difficult to find if you are riding shanks's pony. Here are some fresh directons. If you are getting there from Silom on BTS get out at Saphan Kwai and take the south exit on the right hand side facing back from whence you came... The map tells the rest. But here it is writ.

http://s773.photobucket.com/albums/y...rose_prdpt.jpg

When you get out at this exit and go down the stairs turn around and walk towards the traffic and down to the intersection about 500 m. Turn right and walk along Tn Pradiphat until you come to Pradiphat Soi 19 (RHS) clearly marked. Walk down Soi 19 for 389 paces (about 249 metres LOL) and TR into a short soi and walk about 30 m and turn left. Farose is the third building/dwelling on the left 128/3. The entrance is a large imposing block structure brown render colour which makes it look like a garment factory. Admission - when I went it was 100 baht may be 120 later.

Striped hand towels of the type mother used to give father for cleaning the car when she had finished using them for everything else are available. If your waste is more then 29.5 inches then drape them over your shoulder. Bring some undies, boxers or swimmers. Most guys had on swimmers or boxers, also the std cap.

Inside is a bit like a building site. Bits of crap everywhere. Uneven floors, broken tiles particularly in the steam room (which is great) with some angular bits missing. Thought it was a bit of fancy terazzo... Ha Ha. So take care. Scant towels mean water on ‘polished’ wood floors and stairs… Many many stairs.

A rabbit warren of areas and many levels. There are round biscuit type, large and hard poofs (your oxymoron for the day) in every little cabin which are impossible to get comfortable on but then who wants to sleep.

There is a bar, karoke, stage show all being done with fun. The surrounds are dingy but this sort of adds to the atmosphere. They are fixing the outdoor top floor doing some planking and concreting so this may account for some of the mess.

For my part I was mostly ignored sort of politely but did have 2 encounters of the best kind. The second was suitably rough and hung like in the proverbs. There is always something for you in practically any scene, you just gotta be patient… Alas not my strongest suit.

Now remember I was only there for a couple of hours so it may not be fair to judge so bear this in mind when reading below.

Overall an average experience but I will give it a second look over when the memory fades. By the way as a regular at GSM until the fire I can tell you it is not a patch on GSM. GSM had some folk who cared about the place. This is not really evident here yet but may be this is developing.

Anyway please read with the above caveat.

I meant "not welcome" in the sense that farangs are not in demand at saunas other than Babylon. As a consumer guide this would be correct for Suana Mania,U39,Farose et al.In previous threads the moderator has also indicated that our chances of scoring at Thai youth oriented saunas are in the "don't bother' category.Hospitality-wise you would be welcome depending on the mood of the staff-member.

Do you recommend I try again? As venues they were great but I felt that even a handsome air-steward would be hard pressed. This has been the case since the Obelisk.I think the term is adhesive or something like that.

-- Thanks for these clear directions to what some people would call: 'PHAROSE ONE.'.
- For Google Earthlings it's co-ords. appear to be -
100-32-46.E.x13-47-35.N., (roughly.),.
- Sounds to be quite inviting still - but in its own way.
-- Jogging my amnesic memory I remember that I went thither many, many years ago; it doesn't appear to have changed all that much. Possibly - even then - being some Tired & Olde Farang I was ignored completely all the time, but the natives were enjoying themselves, especially in the 'naked.' spaces upstairs - I was mortified! ;-)

-- Y'day., (05th.), I was chatting with a mature & American professor, (med. ht. & no special & distinguishing features that are apparent immediately.), who likes both cinemas and saunas.

-- He does not like BABYLON SAUNA - apart from its gym.;
- He alleges that he's successful in both SAUNA MANIA. - off Soi Convent; BTS. Sala Daeng. - and in 39 U'GD. SAUNA. - BTS. SAPHAN KWAI.
- In those two places he attributes his successes to -
1.- He speaks Thai;
2.- He observes closely the behaviour of other patrons and is prepared to take his time, even over several visits;
3.- He is neither assertive nor pushy;
4.- He has other attributes, but what those are modestly he did not say. Just between us girls - while he may well have have been an Adonis with a gym. buffed body in his youth sadly few, if any traces, remain; so the mystery of his other attributes remains?

-- He reported that several taxi-drivers did not know of, or were unwilling to go-out to, S'vit. 71.; so he took the BTS. to On Nut, (E9.), and an m/c. thence.
- Fairly successful in scoring after a while - but, to me, nothing to make one really want to trek-out that far on what might be a 'Crap shoot.', (an American term, apparently.),.
-- E&OE. as reported speech.

Yannawa 28th December 2009 10:31 AM

It's really not difficult to get there. BTS Prakanong is the station nearest...not On Nut. At the bus stop at the north-east exit of the BTS station, take bus 71 along Prakanong Road(Which is Sukumvit soi 71) and get off at soi 42 and The Beach is up there 100 meters on a little turnoff to the right.
From Silom, bus 115 goes door to door or from Rama 4 take bus 109.
To try going by taxi is going to lead to a heck of a lot of frustration...unless you simply ask for 'Prakanong soi 42'.

It's the Prakanong skytrain stop, and then get a motorcycle guy to take you to The Beach (although motorcycle boy will be expensive at 40 baht). So it might just be worth it to just take a taxi the whole way--but you can avoid traffic by first taking the skytrain.

The Beach is off Sukhimvit 71--which goes left as you're walking south on Sukhumvit (exit the skytrain going with traffic). It's a long treck up Suk. 71. But all you need to know is it's soi 42 off on the RIGHT side going up Suk. 71. The taxi driver will have to keep slowing down to see the signs on the other side of the street. But all the motorcycle guys seem to know where Beach is.

Okay--turn right and go down soi 42 and you pass maybe two sois, and Beach is on what seems like the LAST one. You turn right and go down narrow residential soi and Beach is quickly on your left. There's a small illuminated sign.

I went there twice recently. It's open until 6 a.m. But although I had recent success there on one visit, I didn't have any success the second visit. It's only 99 baht--so maybe locals like it.

On my recent trip, in addition to my other posts, I checked out Chakran (I was avoided like the plague), Underground 39 (snotty attitude, and I was avoided like the plague; also seems to be populated by cigarette-smoker types), Farose II (I was avoided like the plague), and 69 Sauna (a new one near Asok BTS and Sukhumvit MRT--but maybe only 3 other guys in the place on the weekday evening I was there--who avoided me like the plague, and also expensive--I think maybe 230 baht), and Sauana Mania (went there twice--a little action one time; I was avoided like the plague).

Maybe we should add the following schedule for both places:

Mo - Su: out-of-shape people and/or people over 40 are likely to be ignored.

I totally agree. Underground 39 (and its nearby-neighbor Farose I) were bad experiences for me (over 40).

Sauna Mania is not much better--but the good thing is they're open all night on the weekend and I like the location. I have connected with some femmy ones there and it's also a place you can take a hustler (costs 150 baht each, and you can stay after your friend leaves).

While this is generally probably the case I think they are still worth a look in. Have been to both. At Farose on the ?top floor there is a porn TV room with veiwing windows cut out of the passage at the back. Fellows can lean & watch the show from these spots with their nether regions 'hidden'. If you can put your walking frame aside and get down on your knees fun is to be had here for the over 40's!

Similarly at U39 there are glory 'windows' that allow similar servicing. Fun to be had here also.

Don't expect babylonical boys to fling themselves against the flab or to get caught in your crevices when you sit down. These ones IMHO are faar more interesting and more fun to catch. RIM* may be required before you go.

Even if on-dont expect anyone to follow the rules of the eve.

'How far is it to BABYLON?'.
> 'Three score miles and ten.'.
'Can I get there by candlelight?'.
> 'Yes, and back again.'
. -- Olde & Englisshe nursery rhyme.

- Y'day., (27th.), to BABYLON SAUNA - although not 'Three score miles and ten away.'.
- ETA.: 15.15.hrs.;
- Adm'n.: 230.Bh..
- A fair number of farangs - not all obese and not all Germans, in fact a couple of mature men caught my att'n. because their bodies are still in such good shape! - around the pool, also a few Thais.
- A certain amount of activity amongst farangs in the upstairs' dark-room - few Thais. there, but several JP. boyz, (who were behaving like giggling school-girls.),.
-- MORE Thais started to arrive after 17.hrs..
- Activities in Jacuzzi and in larger steam-room spasmodic; didn't see all that much going-on upstairs, either.
- To supper around 20.hrs., possibly a score or so of other Happy Eaters?
- Looked-in at the Sound Shaft around 21.30. hrs. - little seemed to be happening. Was not aware of any wed. evening's e'tainment. in the Inner Courtyard, either. Today, (28th.), I learnt that e'tainments. will be on the 10th. & on the 20th. of each month for the next few months - vide > http://www.babylonbangkok.com <
- After supper activities in J'zi. and in larger steam-room as previously; although MORE action around 22.hrs. in J'zi. - probably final & last minute action for many before returning home.
- O'all. judgements are that BABYLON was not all that busy for a wednesday evening. and that fewer Thais seemed to be going there.

Bago 29th January 2010 09:23 AM

[out-of-shape people and/or people over 40 are likely to be ignored.[/quote]

This would be obvious of course. But I remember a funny scene in the old Babylon cellar jacuzzi -- 2 really really gigantically obese Asians -- one Thai, one Singaporean, from their accents -- head over heals with each other. It looked funny and liberating at the same time.

these sauna"s I found in ads and must have opened lately: for those who know BKK and like to travel
MACHO-thats in Bangkoknoi, along that main road along Pinklao-Tesco, then Central. and just before the now old Sai Thai busterminal.
ORION sauna is also close by-soi just before the tesco.
web: machosaunagay.com
entry 120/150 for weekdays/ends.
Bus 511 along sukhumvit, bus 507 Ram IV (via Chinatown) or the long detour but new-yellow AC 40 from also Sukhumvit-Siam pass by. Ask for Central Pinklao-get off these and walk a few mins, soi 15, same side of road
TIM BOUC TU-in the Sapan Kwai area-near to the BigC, opposite from 39 Undgrd. With africa theme, but website is so small/undetailed, its hard to see more. soi 48.
Apparently yet another new one in this RamkamHeang area-uni (as thats where I sit now)-Paradise on soi 33. But there so many paradises in this earth/or in BKK, it may simply be a moved one or confusing with same-named others.
Farose 2 here also in RKHaeng area -have read several reports in other fora. Even more dirty, broken-down and slippery due to masses of sp-m, that its unsavoury. But as nowadays many farang students live here on exchange, and seem to be succesfull enough.
When I have managed to visit a few I'll try to keep you all informed about it.

yes-have to correct, sorry about that, its a case of same-same but different. Tim Bouk Tu is not in Kwai, but Sapan Mai(big road same name, also Big C-seems they re-start the soi nrs also further on. But Sapan Mai is much further out of town-east of old Don Muang airport. Might have airforce staff.
Paradise is near another Uni-Kasert.
Check site gthai.net for info+directions.
This site also lists another unknown; GURU-near the Mall Ngam Wong Wan, not too far from that Paradise.
Can get there with expresswaybus 522 from the Vict. Monument-get off 2nd stop after a long freewayride. This bus continues on via Sapan Mai to Rangsit.

You are all correct. Soi 29 is opposite soi 24 and soi 71 is opposite soi 24/1. Soi 24 and soi 24/1 are 1.75 kms apart...the entire Hua Mark Stadium and Ramkhamhaeng University are in between soi 24 and soi 24/1.
Now what would be interesting would be a report on Torpedo Sauna which is on soi Thawonthawat 1, just after it branches off soi 24. I went a few years ago but cannot remember much about it.

Now what would be interesting would be a report on Torpedo Sauna which is on soi Thawonthawat 1, just after it branches off soi 24. I went a few years ago but cannot remember much about it.

I can help you-just after what I wrote-in this same shop on soi 29-I ate at BigC foodcourt and went to Torpedo-easy to find-a little long walk (or take red songhthaew-it wont save any time in the jams) to T-juntion on soi 24-easy to spot. Entry 139 bt-99 bfeore 18.00. A bit rundown, but I really had a great time. Bumped into 2 couples of what turned out to Thai soldiers on leave and doing exercise in the gym-very, very shy at the start, but the free booze (its a free help yourself small bar-there even was rice+some curry) helped them loosen a bit. wow. oho.
I had expected more student types-but that was hardly so (young age to 23/24 gets discount on entry). Not too many patrons- but not very sticky. Of course-its like a lotteree-you never know what you win-or loose.

- Thanks for yr. corr'ns. etc. etc. - appreciated by all of us, I'm sure.

1.- My BKK. City Atlas., (5th.. edn.), makes no mention of a road named SAPAN MAI; -- My copy of the BKK. 'BUS. MAP. , (version E5.), shews 'buses. 166. & 505. go as far as the a/m. i'sect., (2.1.),. There may well be MORE 'buses.?

Sorry-I simply assume that people know BKK and all its khets=district. Sapan (=bridge) Mai (this is new, may also mean silk)-compare Sapan Kwai=buffalo bridge, is not a road but a district, east of Don Muang. The main road running there is indeed Phahonyotin. In proper Thai you should use always use names like ''khet'' or ''thanon=road/street'' but we never do that.
Along that main road in Sapan Mai one can use buses like the 34, 522, 39, 185, 543.
34,39 start/pass the Vict. Monument and Mochit/Chatuchak-then it takes hours in enormous jams. the 522 goes on the Exprway from the Vict Mon-0comes off at Mall /Ngam Wiong wan (passes by all the jams) and then joins the other routes.
I think for me its too far for just trying it out.

GURU
is not opposite, but quite near the MALL Ngam Wong Wan. Its off Tiwanon road, that is the road running north from Nonthaburi toward Khae lai and Pak kred. Buses like the 51, 505, 32, 33 (NOT 166!!) pass there.
The mentioned as new and far away massage/spa named 88 is fairly close by in soi Rewadee. find directions via gthai.net.
In this area is also giant new development and condo's and various replaced govmt. ministries. That may make for much more potential custom there.

Cruising Sauna I

I checked out Cruising Sauna I about 2 weeks ago--I think it was a Thursday evening. 1448/6-7 Phahonyothin Rd. (on other side of the main road from Major Cineplex Ratchayothin shopping mall), phone 02-930-3538 (it is a very short distance down a wide soi (square)--which soi (square) is just north of a cross-over bridge)--you go down the soi a short distance, and sauna is on your right). It seems to be a local sauna. Interestingly, I saw signs for a naval training center nearby. I think it's 6 floors. There are at least two hidden maze areas (it took me a while to discover them). I had limited action with a masculine, built, Thai around 35. What was weird about this place is very few people were connecting--it was like they were all terrified of being seen connecting with anyone else. I never saw people so secretive about going into a room with someone else. I was the only farang, and it seems this place is Thai-for-Thai (and younger at that).

A farang recommended this place to me--but I think he just went there on weekends. He said they have all-nude days (which is when he went).

I took skytrain to Mo Chit and then made the mistake of taking a taxi (it was gridlock even after 6:30). I paid the taxi driver, hopped out, and took a motorcycle taxi which was a lot faster. I couldn't find the sauna, and the motorcycle boys I talked with didn't know about it. I had one use my phone to call the sauna, and, greatfully, I paid him to take me there (he still had some difficulty finding it).

You can also take MRT to Phahol yothin or even Lad Phrao, and then proceed north. Major Cineplex is near Elephant Tower. From Lad Phroa, you will have less traffic if you go north on Ratchadephisek Rd. (which winds over to Phahonyothin Rd.), or you can go from Mo Chit (BRT stop) or Phaholyothin (MRT stop) and go north on Phaholyothin Rd.
