Thai Room - Patpong

Anyone know if the Thai Room in Patpong - the place that served a mix of Thai, Indian and western foods - is still open?

Thanks,
Thahaan

Yes, it is still there, though their space is half of what it was 20 years ago. They serve Thai/Mexican/Western, no Indian that I am aware of. It is a nostalgia place, not a place to go expecting good food.

Thanks Icon, I just assumed that there was something specifically Indian on the menu, since there always seemed to be a big table of Indians in the evenings. They used to have a half decent char broiled steak - and the crab cocktail was usually ok, when I needed a fix of western food. I guess the best thing about the place was the crowd, both inside and walking by the windows The last time I was there (2007) it looked like it was about ready to close down.

Thanks,
Thahaan

tasty

I haven't been there in about a year, but I'm glad to hear it's still open. Since they downsized a few years ago, the place doesn't have the same ambience (and big booths) that it used to have. But I still find the food very good; both the Mexican dishes and the Thai food. (I never noticed Indian on the menu either) Their version of Tom Kha Gai is one of my favorites. And hey, it's just down the corridor from Screw Boy. Time to visit!

-- Although I've seen live people inside there seems to be no signs of life of it RE-OPENING as a restaurant.

I agree with ICON.

It's not what it used to be.

After a couple of visits where we were treated as nothing more than a nuisance i've never been back.

Lots of other options.

Walked by the Thai Room patpong soi 2 last night and it was closed with a big pad lock on the door. There's two pool (snooker) tables and nothing else in the place. Looks long abandoned as a restaurant.

Agree with you...and the food has never been anything to write home about.

It's just one of those old Bangkok institutions that has been around for 40 years or more.

A sentimental choice.

-- LE BUCHON isn't what I'd call 'Seedy & low class.' - cuisine Lyonaise and quite pricy.
-- Back in the olde days Bobby's upstairs & Italian Rest't. - the MARCO POLO? - was well worth visiting; but today Bobby's rest's. are no more.

Excellent? Le Bouchon is dirty, smelly and has cockroaches crawling up the walls.
