I had the same positive impression of Dream Boy when I was there a few weeks ago: plenty of boys, a majority with attractive physiques. The show however was tired and could do with changes.

I liked the fire-eating act at X-size. I even tipped the guy. I know that might only encourage more risk-taking behaviour As for the fuck act, you didn't miss a thing. It was ho-hum, and barely a minute after they began on stage, they went among the audience in search of tips for the pleasure of bonking four strokes on your lap.

Re Jupiter, what percentage of the audience were female?

Any sign of a new bar where Future Boys used to be?

Difficult to say. Maybe 10% - I just remember thinking that there were more females than I had seen in any other bar.

As to Future Boys, I haven't made it that far up the soi yet ;-)

Was just aimlessly clicking around when I happened on an old thread from 2001:

good gogo bars

There's a discussion about Future Boys being packed; with "best shows and some of the best looking guys in the Patpong area". . . oh how times have changed.

Ocean Boys

Visited this new Bangkok bar last night. Although a Saturday night, not very busy. Drinks 250 baht. Lots of boys, all mediocre including some remnants from other nearby bars. Operators were keen to display the newness of the place especially an ear splitting sound system playing the same old tired music we have heard a 1000 times in such venues. The first floorshow of the evening started around 10:30 pm and featured the same tired routines: 3 semi naked oiled boys with candles gyrating inevitably to Enigma, followed by one fully naked and aroused guy gyrating with hoola hoops, and then a towel clad couple doing a tedious massage with a bit of oral titillation for 30 seconds before the end. I didn't wait for the second show. What a waste of time.

Ocean Boys Grand Opening

Ocean Boys in Soi Pratuchai is advertising its grand opening for 18 Dec. From what I managed to catch of the announcement in Thai, it said something about performers being brought in from Alcazar. I guess those who find gatoey cabaret acts irresistible must mark it down on their diary and not give this event a miss.

Thanks, if the grand opening entertaiment night is based around gatoey shows, regardless of whether they are from Alcazar or anywhere, then it's not on my calendar.

Update on tips

I haven't been to Thailand in about a few years, and now I am planning a trip in February. Last time I was in Pattaya a mamasen told me that the fair rate for tips for bar boys was 1,500 for short time and 2,000 for overnight. Is this still the case in Pattaya? I imagine that the going rate is higher in Bangkok, but what is it now? I think Hero has a set rate of 1,000? It's very helpful to set a fair bar, and anyone can tip extra for outstanding service. Thank you for guidance.

Off tips in Pattaya

Please don't believe Mamasans. The going rate is 1,000 baht for short time and perhaps 1500 for overnight.

Mamasans are just trying to jack up rates to make up for the shortage of customers. That's the crazy Thai way of doing business: The fewer the customers, the higher prices must go to make up for shortfall in revenue.

Rates have not changed for a few years now because customers are steadily dwindling. It's a buyers' market. See my next posting about the dismal situation tonight in Bangkok.

Desperate times in Soi Pratuchai

I don't know if tonight is typical for the month, but

9:45 pm - Fresh Beach Boys. 2 customers.
10:00 pm - Ocean Boys. 4 customers, increasing to 9 after show (10:15) started.
11:00 pm - X-boys. 6 customers. Show in progress.
11:15 pm - Classic Boys. 3 customers. "Show start midnight", said doorman.
11:30 pm - Tawan. 6 customers, increasing to 11 by midnight, all waiting for 12:15 show. (A Tawan boy said there were only 10 customers for the earlier show).

If this is high season, God bless the gogo bar business!

Leaving Tawan, I walked past the front door of Glitz Hotel. Signboard outside advertises a special discounted rate till end December. Obviously, hotel isn't full.

Thanks for the info. Is this rate for Pattaya or Bangkok, or both?

You're not going to be very popular in Bangkok if you try to pay 1,000 baht for short time.

In Pattaya short time starts at 500 bt, 1,000 if you're feeling generous.

Overnight starts at 1,000, then "up to you". Its even more of a buyers market in Pattaya
