I am interested in updates on the state of the Bangkok bar scene "post troubles". What are the soi Twilight bars and the Tawan etc like in terms of the quantity and quality of the boys and the number of customers. Comments appreciated.

So, one less go-go makes the soi a bit quieter.

I had 2 visits to X-Size over the last couple of weeks. They seem to be doing OK, I thought. Loud and smoky inside. A fair number of go-go boys, and a show featuring a range of acts, some 'erotic'.
Good numbers of customers in the bar during the shows, and these seemed to be mostly Thai customers. They are there to socialise, I suspect, and not to meet new friends.
The go-go boys dancing seemed to be very alert to any sign of possible interest, and I fear 'offs' are hard to score.

Did not visit the others, so cannot say. I don't go into X-Boys, as I wish to retain my hearing ability.
The soi seemed not to be filled with a lot of people.

Last night (Wed) I popped into My Way, but it was more sedate than normal, if that is actually possible.
2 farangs were deep in loud conversation by the bar, maybe 10 boys or so in varying states of drowsiness, lounging around, mostly fully clothed. The other thing plainly obvious that, being a non smoker, I was very much the odd one out.
After several swigs of my 150 baht soda water, I decided that the dank fug of smoke was not making it a pleasant environment so I left for Solid Bar.
There I found the usual clutch of boys in briefs, but sadly, once again, not the one I make the regular pilgrimage in the hope to see. One other farang was entertaining 3 boys at his table, but generally things were quiet. I had a 120 baht G&T, tipped an old friend and left.
I noticed a new bar next to Solid (between Mango and Solid) called something like 'Hot Male Station' but the doormen were clearly on their break when I passed as they never even lifted their heads so I cannot report more.

I hope you are right. Apart from Telephone Bar and DJ station (after 11 pm) BKK is in need of "meet and greet" type venues where like minded souls can go to seek a pick up in pleasant surroundings . A sort of up-market Golden Cock or Super A ?

Cannot verify that information.

And, as neither of those options appeals to me, may never know.

In Saphan Kwai where many go-go bars converted to "Karaoke" they are in fact more "host" bars, with boys in street clothes. Maybe this will be similar as the location is more suited to attract farangs on the prowl than local budding "idols". A bit like the old Eagle pub in Saphan Kwai.

If it is in fact a de-facto host bar it should be worth a try as you tend to get a better class of boy (uni student types) who consider strutting the go go bars in their undies beneath them, but enjoy hooking up with presentable farangs for fun and remuneration.

Every time I'm in Silom area at night, I go in and walk around in Telephone Pub and leave. Does anyone actually connect with Thai in there? Is it just conceited money boys? It's another place I find very odd. It seems to be a place to sit and waste time (pose). This last trip, it was all excitement about the soccer in South Africa (which I have no interest in). I've tried approaching Thai in there but they're in their own little bar world, and usually sneer at me (apparently a learned hard-to-get game). I also walk a long circle over to Suriwong, down soi Twilight, down Rama 4, down Silom, and back again trying to meet a non-fake money boy. I'm amazed at how hard it is to find someone who does not appear to be a scammer. When one offs a boy from a bar, do they really perform well? I've never done it because they seem so fake and I don't feel like wasting a lot of time and money only to find out that the guy doesn't do much. (I also need a good hot kisser--almost nobody on the street will do that, even if they say they will.) I've met some really nice guys in Silom Complex. Often, these guys are later seen in other places.

Just make sure you have agreed on everything you want before you pay his. Then if there is a problem, tell him no tip unless he does as promised. I would guess 80-90% of my offs have done exactly what they said they will do. Not such bad odds

I don't understand what a "tip" is. I talked to one guy who said 500 baht. Then later he said 500 "tip" before we did anything. I said something like "total 500" and he never disagreed.

What I'm worried about is if a guy says he kisses, and then he kisses in the most phony and mechanical way (this happens with the masculine guys on Rama 4, and sometimes in Silom Complex).

Do the guys in Soi Twilight Bars really get hot and passionate? If there's any fakeness, this turns me off, and I get really mad that I can't climax.
