Man about town and the music world Ian "Molly" Meldrum is in a critical condition in hospital tonight after falling off a ladder at his Richmond,Melbourne home.
For a while he ran a nightspot in Soi 4 at the old Rome club site called Molly Jump.Not a successful venture perhaps because the owners preferred to court a non- gay crowd. Molly himself was a constant in Bangkok for decades and most would feel affection or amusement for him.As a music reporter he has close connections to the superstars but welcomed everybody to banter at bars,dance parties or wherever. Hope he pulls through but older men on ladders is a recipe for disaster. check his progress on The Age online.

A lovable Queen - I think he was also a partner in Balcony at one stage. . He's the 2nd ladder accident of some-one I know this year. The first one ran one of Sydney's biggest clubs "Home" disco (Simon Page) and is now incoherent and a shadow of his former self. Very sad.

Latest from 9msn site;
Larry Spry, who has been Meldrum's friend since 1964, said Meldrum was in an induced coma with broken ribs, a possible punctured lung and swelling on the brain after splitting his head open between 5pm and 6pm. He said he did not fall from a ladder but from his spa, which is several metres above the ground. "We don't know what exactly happened. I think he was putting up decorations for his Christmas party, which was next Sunday," Mr Spry said. He is 65.

Molly's Jump was were Balcony is now, not the ex Rome Club site next door, and while Molly had his own custom Balcony t-shirt which he famously wore on TV in Oz I don't know he was ever a Balcony owner! though he probably deserved at least a part-ownership of Tawan given his patronage of the bar!
Simon Page's only relationship with Home was selling the then owner the rights to the name of a by then defunct club in Pitt Street and a fairly out-of-date database of teenage clubbers which proved to be of dubious value and I think Molly will certainly be missed more in BKK or in Oz than Simon ever will! bkkguy
