I want to stay in Pattaya with a Thai friend who is gay but dont want to stay in a "gay-area" or a pure gay-hotel. I only know hotels in These areas (Boystown, Pattaya, Jomtien). Can anyone tell me about a "normal" hotel where a western man can stay with a younger Thai guy or where the western man can bring a Thai "joiner" free to his room

-- Khun RoNo,
- The decor in the main & public area is, I'm told, traditional Thai - ie. dark & heavy; - When I was there - approx. one yr. ago - refurbishment of guests' room was proceeding from the 5th. fl. downwards; - In the guests' rooms beds are generally queen-sized, with bed-linens & towels being changed daily; in the bathrooms soap, shampoo, hair-conditioner are provided; - There is also a small & outdoors' swimming pool; - By the pool and on most floors there are sel'ns. of books for guests to read - mainly English but also French & German; - Not sure about there being in-rooms' Wi-Fi.? -- But agreed with you, for yr. purposes it has both loc'n. and being gay-friendly in its favor; it is clean, adequately comfortable and basic acceptable.

Thanks a lot sextile and icon513. Both suggestions are interesting (even if Mikes with wall-to-wall carpets in the room is a bit off :-) )
Have checked amny other hotels in South Pattaya which looks good on their web-sites (e.g. Beverly Plaza, right opposite Mike´s) but when Reading visitors reports they all seem to be over-crowded with indian and middle east-visitors. I know many very nice people from these areas but those of them going to Pattaya seems to have a kind of "different" hotel-culture :-S Maybe Mike´s and Dusit cater to a more western or Asian clientele

no, Dusit Thani is the large 5 star hotel right at the N end of the beach. Dusit X2 is a trendy new hotel in walking distance to Boystown on 2nd Road . A good choice. (I've stayed at the Chiang Mai version of this hotel.)

I always stay at this hotel although it is now 5 or more years old and shows it. But the prices are cheap and the service is excellent. They are very gay friendly and it is very conveniently located to Boyztown.
