Anyone else having to log in twice?

It seems like most of the time I log into CFS I have to log in twice -

The first time all goes well then suddenly I go back to the log in screen -

I log in again and everything works fine.

Is this happening to anyone else or is it something on my system?

Thanks for letting us know. I have not been having this problem, whether I log in with this Admin user account or with my regular non-Admin account.

The site uses cookies to keep you logged in as you move between the different sections such as the Message Board, Sex Listings, the home page and so on. These are actually located on three or four different servers with different hostnames (i.e., 'web', 'listings', 'www') and the cookie is intended to keep you connected to all of them.

Perhaps there is a security setting on your browser that is affecting this. It's hard to debug this sort of thing, of course. Also, when you log in do you do it always from the same page? Or do you do it from different pages? I have logged in from the home page, from the main Sex Listings page, and from the main Message Board page and in each case I still have not been able to reproduce the problem.

I log in from Home Page: CRUISING for SEX

It is NOT a big problem - as I said I log in once and it bounces me back out. I log in again and all works fine. It could be that my browser I use for gay websites (Firefox) is set to delete cookies when it closes. Maybe the first time I log in it puts back a cookie I need?

I just mentioned it in case others were having the problem - but logging in twice is no big deal...

Thanks for the information, and I appreciate your patience. That page is one of several we hope to revise soon. I hope the changes will help correct the problem for you.

I get the double-login if I use Incognito Mode in Chrome or IE and come in through the main page. If I come in through a direct page link and login from that, all is well.

I'm not surprised that Incognito mode (or the Private window in Firefox) might behave differently. The login process was actually set up and tested by Keith and me a few years ago prior to his passing in 2012. Obviously browsers have continued to change and add capabilities since then but the sites' software has not.

Unfortunately, my attention has had to be focused on keeping the content updated day to day (especially the Sex Listings and Escort site) and dealing with server issues (crashes last summer followed by a migration that is not yet complete).

There's a lot of items on my to-do list, but only one person, me, to do them. I hope you all can be patient.

I know that the double-login is annoying. If there are other issues that truly prevent people from using the site I'll move them up to the top of the list. Otherwise, many of the annoyances and less functional aspects of the site unfortunately will have to wait until I have more time available to implement several software updates or else the funds available to hire someone to assist.

I deeply appreciate your patience and support. ~ Bob

I don't think it's a huge problem at this time. However, if there is a substantial increase in the number of folks using Incognito (especially on mobile devices) it could become more than a quirk one can live with.

I suspect the double call is because login is handled asynchronously. The page's (session?) state isn't being refreshed on return, so it doesn't realize the session is now authenticated. Easiest might be to move the static parts to an updatable region that can be refreshed on demand, and call the refresh before exiting the login handler.

The ultimate plan is to replace the home page and related pages on the 'www' server with a CMS. All of these page have been static (except for a few IFRAMES) because it allowed Keith to update them using Dreamweaver. He was very cautious about keeping personal control of such things, and also preferred to have me tweak off-the-shelf software so much that it made upgrades complicated and rather time-consuming.

Anyhow, my eventual goal is to find a CMS that integrates easily with the Sex Listings software and simplify everything so that there will be an easier upgrade path going forward. I honestly don't know what the future holds for the Message Board since traffic for this part of the site has been declining for a number of years.
